9E at Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, regulator was closed not far past the end of the platform and the train coasted over the summit.

:D Probably along the lines: 1. Your remarks are fatuous; 2. 11 coaches is trivial for a Scot; 3. Only anorexic passengers were allowed; 4. if it was a DBS crew they would have been doing wheelies on the rear coupled axle.

Agreed - but some posters don't understand the northern sense of humour - and sarcasm / irony doesn't translate well to the written word.

Only if other factors such as coal quality are also favourable. The same loco ran much slower up Grayrigg and Shap on 1st March last year.

90029 on the northern leg but I believe it suffered a broken windscreen heading south and had to be swapped at Crewe. I'm afraid that I don't have any further details.

Edit: Full story of smashed windscreen and replacement loco can be found at
    https://flic.kr/p/tivDHT
90035 Took the train forward from Crewe south.

Been looking at realtime for 46115 from Carnforth and it was pretty impressive as she made up the 15 late off Carnforth to being on time at Penrith so not bad for a cold engine out of Carnforth .
