Tanfield Railway’s 9th Legends of Industry gala,on June the 20th and 21st will feature visiting locomotive Mech Navvies, returning to the North East for the first time in 40 years alongside the resident fleet.

An intensive timetable will give lots of opportunities to ride through the scenic Causey Woods behind a variety of locomotives. There will be demonstration coal trains and shunting demonstrations at Marley Hill. The 2ft gauge demonstration railway will also be in action.

Away from the trains the Sunderland and District Classic Vehicle Society will have vehicles on display at East Tanfield. There’ll be lots more to see and do in the carriage shed at Marley Hill too.

The character filled ‘Stationmasters Office’ real ale bar at Andrews House will also be open throughout the weekend with a selection of beers. Tasty hot and cold snacks will be on offer at East Tanfield and Andrews House too.

Hi Martin, sorry to correct you but the Kitson has already had a trip away from Tyneside when she went to Shildon last year for a weekend. I expect to be busy on her tomorrow making sure she is fit for that weekend, she is an old lady and needs careful handling!

Had a day out to Tanfield today, as ever a great railway and a good time had by all. The only downside for us was not being able to look around the storage/restoration sheds behind the loco shed which seemed locked up. Nice to see a plethora of helpful volunteer staff at the younger end of the age scale.

Wonderful pictures, so very evocative of the happy days spent on NCB lines back in the '70s. Tanfield is very much a "time warp" railway, it truly captures the atmosphere of the industrial railways of the North East. Many thanks for sharing.

    Cheers

    Alan
