Jon if we use the shuttle why not let the passengers disembark at Leek Brook and open the signal box for inspection as the signals do not control the trains yet.

    No can do.

Leek Brook platform not been signed off yet, and the run to LBJ adds 20 mins to the shuttle meaning the UP train would have to wait 35+ mins which is unacceptable in our minds and would create more issues than it would solve.

Shuttle has to be restricted Chedd - Froghall if we operate it.
Or we do a 2-train Cauldon tt passing at LBJ.
Third option is 3-train Cauldon tt but the sets will only be 3 coaches as that all we got, and there will be a 40 min wait @Froghall.

Would seem a huge waste of the biggest asset of the Cauldon trips - the bank!

How many coaches have the CVR got available for service, 9? (does that include the dining mark 1s?)

Thought you guys dragged the DMU for locals on the CVR while the Mk1s went up and down on the MCR?

Looks like we will have to wait until platform 2 at Cheddleton is done before we can get a balanced timetable. Bring it on once the embankment is established.

The DMU is no longer available following its move to the East Lancs.

I'd prefer a two train timetable with every train gong up to Ipstones. I'm not interested in CVR shuttles especially if they're freight. The main draw for me is an interesting visiting loco. 31806 was good so something about that size alongside the S160(s) would be great. Perhaps 76079 or 43106 or even better a Manor, anything but another Bulleid pacific!

What about two passenger sets and a freight ?, woulden't matter if the latter had to sit for a while at Leekbrook, plus longer passenger sets to make the loco's work.

Personally would love to see a Crab the dirtier the better on passenger going up to Ipstones, then on freight for a photographic charter from Froghall going up on the Ipstones line. Not sure if any are available though.

One of the S&DJR 2-8-0 7Fs would be good as well.

I heard that the 7F being overhauled at Butterley is expected to be running later this summer. The other one at the WSR is also being overhauled but I think their priority is having it running at their 2016 Spring Gala - with an S&D theme.

I agree with Jeff about seeing the Crab at CVR, is it still running in Crimson Lake?

Other ideas from me would be 63395 (I think I've said this on another CVR Gala thread), you could go for an S160 hat trick with Big Jim from KWVR (5920 I think) or....

... How about a "Stoke Scot"? 43924 (also from the KWVR) let's face it the Moorlands would have been flooded with 4Fs in the old days and it would look just right on the passenger service or a freight. Maybe it would be cheaper to hire, run and transport than a bigger engine too.

Cheers for the replies guys! To answer some queries -:

DMU - Left CVR for ELR start of this year
Coaches - We will have 9 serviceable inc the Diner (but exc the Kitchen car). Therefore there will be a 4-coach and 5-coach set in service if we do 2-trains to Ipstones
Goods - No freight can run up Cauldon as our Rule states any vehicle travelling up this section needs to be fully fitted. All our Brake Vans are thru-piped and we don't have many serviceable fitted wagons (think there possibly 4 off the top of my head)
    Manor - Not in 2015...
Bulleid - We have agreed that having had 34007 only last year we will leave the Bulleids for a bit
5820 - Rather wait for 2018, 75 years since S160s entered service on UK Rails. Give 3278 chance to be readied too...

Hope this helps. Like the idea of the Q6, but depends what NELPG have planned for the winter. Also interesting to see locos with local relevance appearing on people's wish lists. Food for thought!

Keep the ideas coming though please, we are listening!

Hmmm, just realised that my post above could be mis-read, 43924 wasn't actually a Stoke Scot because it wasn't actually based at Stoke. On the other hand, plenty of 4Fs were based at Stoke, including several (6 in fact) of the Midland built Right Hand Drive types, 43864 was at Stoke for most of the 50s so maybe a little cosmetic renumbering would be nice.

Hope that clears up any potential misunderstanding.

Thinking outside the box - but what chance of a Fairburn from the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway ?

A Fairburn would be nice, and they have hired them out but only to the GCR and Bluebell (as I recall). Stoke certainly had plenty of 2-6-4s. Not sure that L&H would hire it out though.... it would certainly be good to see one on the CVR though.

The Fairburn got photo charter commitments this November at L&HR, so we won't be hiring that.

They were actually quite regular out of Uttoxter shed back in the day, taking over from the older Fowler Tank. Be nice to have a 42xxx and 76xxx together one day to rekindle some memories. Shame we did nothing for the 50th anniversary of closure last year :(

I always like the idea of things that are local to a railway or a good theme all together. Never been a big fan of just random locos. So anything of a local style for me. The Turkish 8F from GCR (n) would be great as its currently in LMS livery. 45337 is at Barrow Hill in sept and currently doesnt have a contract anywhere after that so that would also be nice. Depends on costs etc. Do you only want to hire one loco? Or is there a max lorry moves meaning you have 2 loads which is either 1x tender or 2x tank? If its tanks then a standard 4 and a jinty would be good in my eyes. 80072 should be back in steam by then and im sure it needs steaming fees to put money back into the next overhaul!

Depends upon costs and expected return. All ideas are being considered, but the point of my question was to gain an idea of what sort of service visitors would be happy with than specific locos as such a list will be endless depending upon the number of people we ask.
