Three failed locomotives are enough. Let's not add another. <BJ>

Every piece of traction needs maintenance. Simply adding to the pool solves nothing without commensurate additional workshop capacity as it presupposes the addition can be put to use with less work than the other locos needing repairs. Simply keeping on top of routine running maintenance is a big job with a large fleet.

Indeed its begs the question of how effective is WCRC maintenance regime. I know things happen with ancient machinery but even so it seems to keep happening to WCRC loco's & as they seem to be sharing out the workload its not like they are flogging a particular engine to death............

Maybe a new management structure to oversee the steam fleet (peering in the can of worms :Gagmewithaspoon:)

I was thinking more about a replacement for 46115 IF it is indeed soon to disappear off the network.

Pretty sure that 46115 gained a further couple of years following an intermediate, winter 2013 perhaps?
Regarding the broader point adding competent people to existing resources to manage a growing workload is no easy task. The knowledge, skills and abilities required cannot be acquired overnight in any quantity. It's much easier to acquire the locos than enough competent staff to maintain them in fact. Breathing space is not easy to obtain either unless some operational work is forfeited or repairs contracted out. Again neither is straightforward or palatable even if affordable.
Success of a growing business has a price.

Yet another provocative comment from yourself. Sure you do it on purpose just to wind people up.
People can see what happened without being reminded.

How on Earth was it a provocative comment? Expressing appreciation that the passengers weren't stranded until such time at WCRC could get a diesel there from Carnforth?

And from Ralph, someone often a coach steward who must know full well the impact of all working on board of a train that suffers a steam loco failure when a diesel isn't already on the train.

Not the least bit provocative. A perfectly valid point to make.

Because it is a very delicate controversial subject, as such why mention it? It happened, end of.

I'm sure Galatea and Leander would be more reliable if they were painted LMS crimson lake! :p

Wasn't at all pleased when I found out that Galatea had to be taken off the train and I did notice that the crew had been worried about the offending axle from Liverpool. Here's some footage that I captured from on-board yesterdays trip which before anyone asks I had to cancel the booking with VT and apart from the departure from Lime Street and thrash through Edge Hill cutting I had my head in for the trip with just the camera's out the window.

Within about two seconds of starting that video I had to stop it because of the added horrible din that bears no relationship to the subject matter. Why go to extra trouble to dub in unsuitable sound?

You do realise that's only the intro which lasts for just under 30 seconds, this is common with all my videos of this length. With videos that are just say 5-6 minutes long it's just a photo with the title. If this is how all my video's are gonna be judged I wont be promoting my videos over National Preservation in the future.

If you don't want people to judge your films then don't put them on the internet. I too found the introductory music OTT and the on board video suffered from excessive wind noise at times.
A decent did gag would help I'm sure.

I think Galatea and Leander issues are going to be quick fixes. Maybe optimistic.

Sorry to see Galatea failed on Sunday and hope its a quick fix.

But this is not a good enough reason to add a diesel. Steam loco should be fit to run able to do job on its own, otherwise, quite frankly, what's the point?

But maybe more thought needs to be given to back up, just in case, with diesel backup shadowing the tour, at least to say Chester.

I agree with these comments and would also add perhaps cleaning the camera lens would help the picture clarity. Then we get 40 odd minutes in which we infrequently hear or see the loco but do get a lot of wind noise and some countryside drifting past, that may be you idea of a steam tour video but I doubt if anyone else thinks the same.
