The Mail did an article on 4472 today and I noticed a Bulleid tender in one of the photos. Any idea who it belongs to?

35027's ? its clearly a cut down MN i would guess, and has warning flashes, so most likely originally the one that ran with 35005 , which was swapped i believe.

The photo has been taken inside IVR's workshop. Therefore I think it may be an old one from the time Braunton was also there. My guess would be that the tender belongs to Braunton.

I think your right about it being for 35027. I think 35027 and 35005 did swap tenders (wasn't the one 35005 had modified when she went mainline). The one now destined for 35005 was used by 34046 when she returned to steam and is behind 34007 currently.

35009, I hope Ian Riley still has plans for her.

Don't hold your breath. There always seems to be a new Black5 cropping up at the right time for Ian, to divert his attention away from a Southern Merchant, Lol.

35009 doesn't have a tender. If Ian ever gets around to her, he'll have to build a new one.

Just been looking at the ELR website, hoping to find news of Wells's visit, but there doesn't appear to have been anything since the news blog on 8th July saying she was going there for the summer hols. The loco roster page was last updated mid-Feb! Does anyone here have any gen from the railway? I shall up "up north" 10th-16th Aug, and if Wells is running, I'd pop over for a ride behind her. TIA

All of which is a shame because a 8P that is gauge friendly might be an asset to Riley’s steam rescue services and with a 75 mph top end as opposed to 60 of the black 5's it may be quite useful.

But you can't run a Merchant over the West Highland Line (let alone the Extension)! ;)

I'm also eagerly checking their website! It's an old complaint of mine, but I do wish railways would bother updating loco rosters. It brings money in! I have periods when I'm driving up and down the motorway network and I like to take a lengthy break. If I know what's due to be out and about on a heritage line, I'll go there, otherwise I take my dosh to National Trust or English Heritage etc.
I'm due to be near both East Lancs and Gloucester & Warwicks a few times in early August. Bulleid news from either would get me along more than once! My guess is that I'll end up at the SVR as their roster is always up to date!!!

OK, I will give you that one, But there have been plenty of times in the past when the booked 7,or 8 P hasnt shown, and a black 5 has taken its place, having something that is able to take on a tour and run to the same timings as the booked engine would make sence, look at the times when a black 5 had to substitute for Tangmere in the past, now had 73096 been availible, the tour would have still ran to its original timings

Wells has been getting a washout done. Possible test run today.

GWSR's roster is usually up to date, although I don't think we'll be seeing any Bulleid action in August; certainly not passenger runs anyway. It'll be a choice of which GW green, GW green, or GW green all summer. :)

Visiting the Mid Hants Railway today I was struck by the contrast in size between two tenders that happened to be parked together at Ropley, one being attached to a Bulleid pacific and the other a bogie tender from some older Southern loco. My understanding was that the Southern (and the LSWR before it?) went in for large tenders on some of their locos because of the absence of troughs. So why did Bulleid not give his pacifics, which would presumably use even more water than the older locos, similarly large tenders?

The tenders of both a Merchant Navy and an S15 carried 5,000 gallons of water and 5 tons of coal.
