Not talking about just running repairs but ALL decisions regarding the loco.

I feel for them to because they have been having trouble getting guests quite a bit lately. Is it true that Wells is going somewhere else to be based? Or is that just speculation?

so, on the face of it, there will be no more road transfers unless a new route can be found

There appears to be lot of speculation based one known fact here, namely the road, preventing the usual road access route, as this has only just happened at short notice I think it would be wise to allow the railway time to resolve these unforeseen issue, it is not the first and wont be the last hurdle but where this is will there is way and KWVR have very successful history resolving and getting around issue of this nature.

Have they or just sound commercial decisions that with 34092 then 75078 coming back for successive galas they would be more of an attraction than x from the ABC Railway on it's UK tour?
If X costs £XXXX to hire and transport but isn't expected by increase income by £xxxx then don't hire it. Often home fleet only galas will make more money than those with visitors despite income being down.

You've got that bit right - we had the M7 at the MHR a few years back as the only guest - she was on her way home, so it was home fleet plus one...... numbers were "down" but so were costs which meant the bottom line was healthy, same with this years spring gala - two captive "stars", no movement costs = one happy MD!

It's not just about the bottom line on the day though. Visiting locos add some variety for the crews and bring people to the railway who may not have visited otherwise and hopefully ensnare them as members and/or repeat visitors. Also raises the profile of the line in the railway press.

I have been told today that Wells is to return to the KWVR via a rail journey once the gauging of the loco & route has been completed. Axle testing done.

1 x visiting engine also getting towed or powering itself on to the railway for the October gala. Wells, a fully lined 75078 + guest is enough interest isn't it?

He probably gets consulted but as he would probably earn more cash for it going on hire (hire and then steaming fees) why would he want it parked up on another railway doing nothing that weekend?

46100 would be excellent! As would 70013 or 70000. Is there any reason why Tornado has never visited KWVR?

Probably too heavy as are A2,A3,A4,V2 and Royal Scots certainly were in the early days so probably now too.
7000o and 70013 are two of the few ok Pacifics and both have visited.

    I am the Gala organiser.
I will try to outline what is fact, rather than rumour and hear say which for those that know me has kept me away from this forum for sometime.

The KWVR Road access for road moves is at Ingrow. There is damage to "Ingrow bridge". This occurred when 34092 went to the GW&R. The move was not for the KWVR. Anything to do with the KWVR. A private loco agreement with another railway which has caused considerable problems to the KWVR.
The weight limit imposed is 44ton.

Most trailers weight 15-20ton. So even a 42ton coal tank is overweight.

We are investigating Haworth as am alternative. There is 1 bridge at "The Oak" that may be a problem. Access to the yard is also not possible easily.
Our trusted hauliers are looking into this. It may (may ) & also may not be sorted for the gala.

All being well it is planned 34092 will return by mainline (drag with diesel in light steam)

I have requested numerous visiting locomotives. Most of which are out for maintanence, don't run on heritage railways (eg 46115/45699) or busy elsewhere (70000).

Royal Scots can now run on the branch subject to a speed limit of 20mph.
    46115 doesn't visit heritage lines.
46100 hasn't yet turned a wheel (please don't get too excited).

Tornado is too heavy to run on the KWVR.

I can answer any more sensible questions

Kieran, has the railway looked at the NR access point from Sainsburys Car Park in Keighley, there's some fairly large tackle been through there over the years and access to the top of the run round loop ( Skipton end) might be possible?

Haworth station was used for the delivery of 78022 when she first arrived from Barry, but as you say Haworth can be a bit crowded these days.

Duke of Gloucester got as far as Howarth ?
Great thing about the KWVR is that most of the modest sized locos need to open up a bit, Seen a couple struggle (esp 957) think it was truro that needed a bit of a run up to get out of Keighley once.
Using sainsburies Staff car park possibly ? would require removing a curb, and a hedge and then putting a gate in the fence, a bit of tamping to flatten the resulting mess and create a level and stable surface
but , if its big enough to turn round in would allow a low loader to at least ramp down onto the ends of some catchpoints ? .... That's a lot of messing about esp if there aren't any catchpoints...

We can have most things up the line. We've had A4s etc. Its just at a 5mph restriction and not on a train

    FAO gala organiser...

    Any update on gala loco's?

Or are things leaning towards a 'home fleet' gala? (Which are still very good btw)
