Amy chance of the heating, lighting and PA being being on the "to do" list?

We think that we be sitting outside Reading until booked time. Very good return run so far, Churchill and Birmingham on footplate.

Well a 14 minute early departure from Newbury ended up right time at Southcote Junction, must of been a slow run.
Then lost 4 minutes to just after Reading West & Reading where it departed late.

  10. My video of Brittania near Castle Cary this evening and going well!

    A great trip.

We got off at Slough. An elderly couple who had been sitting opposite us were due to alight there, but got in a muddle (the husband had wandered off, somewhere up the train) and had to go on to Paddington. Does anyone know if they were reunited OK? Her indoors was somewhat concerned.

It was a fast run from Newbury to just before Southcote Junction.

Great to see two steam trains yesterday (this one and Tornado on the Pullman) with not a diesel in sight. My God, that makes me and the steam fraternity feel just great. Well done to those who made that happen and let's not forget. It is August, sunny and we have not had any rain for several days.

These are two modern locos with the kind of features on them that stand the best chance of containing the fire and its products where it should remain. Never 100% of course, but it is a factor that does make a difference, in my view.

    A Thingy...
PA and lighting working, with warnings about not sticking heads out of droplights seemingly a key new feature on RTC trips. This might be the reason why some of the carriage sets are being temporarily withdrawn. Lights were working all the way out and all the way back to Paddington, whilst it looks like the carriage sides have been given a couple of coats of varnish. Roofs back to bare metal prior to re-painting should be the next project as they are still in a bit of a state...

Haven't a clue about heating as it was too warm for it anyway. It was actually quite a good trip that was helped by the fantastic weather. I can understand why the other two have been pulled- risk of saturating the market.

It was generous, but preferred a couple of pints in Minehead instead, as it would have been too much GWR for one day (rather, I wanted to avoid the queue in Wetherspoon's and make sure I had some sort of bite to eat by going there early!). Ended up having a natter with Paul42 in the Queen's Head, in any case.

Was planning to pay on the day for this one. But with No 9 out of action at Buckfastleigh the options are few and far between for motive power down to Bishops Lydeard.
