I can't find where but I'm sure I read somewhere that, due to the crewing involved with having a loco on the mainline, they'll only ever have one of the two pacifics in running order, but that towards the end of 6233's current ticket they may look into overhauling 6203. Although under cover and cosmetically OK, does any one know what state she is in mechanically?

I understand that she has major firebox problems. I asked Brian Radford how she was many years ago - shortly after she came out of traffic - and the response was not encouraging. There is no doubt that Maggie is repairable, but at a cost.

I think these two posts sum it up, not enough support crews to look after both locos at the same time, but primarily the extra cost in getting 6203 in running order, against that of 6233 which at the moment is in far better condition.

I think that I would much rather have 6233 another ticket after this one. Nothing against having two Princess royals due to my love of Stanier pacifics. I would prefer 6233 because having a coronation class means that both classes of pacifics are represented.

I read it in steam railway magazine in 2011.
