Those were the days, when preserved locos were quickly repainted into pre-grouping or grouping liveries.

What was the bell doing on 3442?

It *looks* like the one from KGV. Most odd.

 

It's one off a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive - possibly a K4 (presumably the idea of a PRR K4 bell on an LNER K4 appealed to someone!) - the style of the bell and mount are quite distinctive. See: http://www.national-preservation.com/threads/gresley-k4-3442-the-great-marquess.45186/

 

That's because then people took responsibility for their own actions and used common sense.
