Not being rude, but how do you expect me to know "The Man" from Adam & if he is a WCRC steam driver. I'm not well up in these things.

Yes, I was grouping together all that happened with Tangmere that evening re large bouts of slipping including one on the final climb. And took what was reported here re no 9. In posts trying to add some humour to another very sad day for all those involved in the train today. Humour is what I do. I've seen far too much of the sad side of life to want to behave any other way these days.

I think he was fairly clear in the post to remove all doubt as the cause of the failure .

I started writing a post here then decided not to bother and deleted it. But every time I come back to this page my half-written post re-appears. I am now replacing it by this one.

    Moderator Note:
A number of posts have been unapproved as they are picking up on what, on this occasion, was an innocent remark by an individual and then adding some unnecessary 'humour'.

    Please move on.

Had same problem I know as a way to clear the clipboard it is the sledgehammer option but I fixed it by restarting windows whilst I was making a cuppa for me and the missus. Two jobs solved in one.

having disappeared into my Library and dug out Peter Townend's excellent book on Top Shed it is quite interesting to read that A4's did have a penchant for Hot boxes in steam days and needed very careful attention to minimise their occurrence . The right Driving one seems to have been more likely than any other . A particularly bad spell being caused by Doncaster adopting optical aligning

60009 will be fixed at the workshops at Buckfastliegh on the SDR. It looks like it will only be at Buckfast until its problem has been repaired before heading back onto the mainline which I would imagen a few days?

I also feel for mr. Cameron because he paid a lot for these new tires as well.

We appear to be short enough of engines at the moment and this makes No. 9's misfortune all the more irritating. If a Gresley Pacific is going to have problems with an axlebox it would nearly always be the right hand driving. Gresley had observed uneven wear patterns in axleboxes long before Ken Cook introduced optical alignment. We now know that in modern 3 cylinder i.c. engines the crank can display some peculiar movement behaviour and the Pacifics could have been undergoing something similar, it was felt to be related to crank lead at the time. After optical alignment was introduced individual axleboxes were produced to meet the needs of individual hornblocks. If a box needed replacement it was obtained from Doncaster though the delay in supply could prove problematic. If the information that I have is correct at the 36,000 mile examination the boxes were renewed. The exact cause of the wear anomaly was never resolved.
However No.9 has just had the axleboxes attended to, along with other items, and this is the second failure. Works error, defective materials or the oil specification being changed without the end users being adequately informed. We don't know yet. Hopefully Buckfastleigh will solve the issue but I will be keeping an eye on 46100.

The theory is that with all the drive through the one axle there is a certain amount of frame flexing taking place leading to uneven wear

You can see part of it here, with part of No 9 passing. Cat supports everywhere now too.

Tangmere slipped then stalled, moved again? Not a jot

The A4 then tried, but quickly ran hot

Along came a Semi, cock stuck open with steam

Then a Castle, not as fast as may seem

Earlier errors largely corrected, but poetic licence rules ok!

Humour, aimed at every BR Region so not pointed at any one person here.

Just my way of getting through the day, as Basil Fawlty once said!
