Passengers that use FGW's sleeper services are used to loco failures. It's quite common for FGW class 57 diesels to fail.
They run in top 'n tail mode for this reason.
On one occasion a sleeper train failed at Bristol Parkway. The second loco was started up as a replacement.....it also failed. <BJ>

they don't run in tnt mode for that reason, you have been misinformed.
Yeah on occasion it goes wrong like that, but they have the resources near by to help with this,
back to back power cars for example.

Question......what do you do at Newton Abbot at 04.30 when the train stops for good ?? Do they just leave you asleep till the next Penzance turns up 07.38, or get woken up for the .06.17 Newquay...or........ Wonder if there are any 'plan Bs' along the line !!! sorry Al, bit off tack but interesting eh ? Pete

Not exactly to do with sleepers, but on my last return from Swindon, my train only had 1 working power car , apparently the rear car failed at Bristol it was some 7 minutes down at Swindon but we still arrived only some 3 minutes down at London, so how often do HST sets have to run on a single power car, and whilst Bristol to Paddington may not effect the performance too much, i do wonder would a single power car cope over the Devon banks?

AFAIK IC125 sets are not allowed over the Devon Banks with only one working power car.

Sometimes having two power cars isn't a complete fail safe mind as FGW found out yesterday morning when one of their HST's sat down at Ledbury for two hours right during the morning peak resulting in some big delays.

Made no difference to the passengers though did it. They had to go onward by road.

Let's just say more people were affected by it than the Royal Duchy problems combined ;)

I think they are now, on the provision a non stop run through Totnes can be given.
