Again the point is missed, why no loaded test run after such comprehensive repairs, especially after it was failed at Preston to such an extent, it had to be removed by Low Loader.

Personally tour fees should allow more £££ for owners, Tornado gets away charging a £10 premium, it should be rolled out to all owners.

Then we might see what is promised being delivered, with the greatest respect to everybody who tries hard to make these things happen.

Wonder how many of those who experienced Sunday will be added to those who have lost faith in the ability of Steam to deliver on the mainline????

This post itself fails to take in any of Maureen's points that it is supposedly replying to. And see 513 and 517.

Repetition of a point already made by you in #485. Can we all please move on?

Can you please remind us all a bit closer to the event so I can make sure I am settled into my armchair to enjoy the day with you BillyR.

BTW, my first steam run, well at least the one I noted down, was the 16.40 Margate on 4th June 1960. From Sevenoaks to London Bridge. Schools class 30921. Not logged though. 12 years old. With big brother Don.

I would have thought the light engine (+POB) run from Crewe to Southall and then being part of the stock move from Southall to Bristol should have found any Gremlins.

Hopefully we can put all this back and forth about No.9 failing to bed - I think the she just had a bad day, and its bad luck it happened after Tangmere stopped last week. But then, we don't even know if there was anything wrong with Tangmere??!!

Lets not forget that during BR days no steam loco was generally given a gentle run in - they were sent through the works and shoved back out the door to work. A running in turn was a quick wizz round the block to make sure nothing leaked.

I know that you want to move on but I thought that you may like the picture that my daughter and I took yesterday at SDR.
We waved at the train as it went passed us at Tiverton Parkway, as we were on a trip to Bristol and then hoped to wave to it from our back garden in Ivybridge on the return trip but then found out that it had broken just where we normally wave to the steam trips. Fingers crossed for the next trip as we really want to wave to a steam train from our back garden as we only moved here last year and so far only seen one go passed.

lets hope that with 70000 its a case of 3rd time lucky, so far the engine has been reliable, but everyone knows how steam engines can be tempermental, i just hope that theres not another jinx waiting to derail this next one, When something goes wrong in this way its bad for everyone, the loco owner, who instead of a hiring fee have a repair bill to pay, the organiser who wil have unhappy customers who may not want to risk another trip, and of course the TOC who will be liable for any delays caused to any timetabled services. in short everyone loses , its no secret that there is a shortage of steam engines for these tours in the south, is this in part ,part of the problem?

This is one of the all time great Nat Pres threads:-

A couple of loco "failures" that got the armchair brigade demonstrating their expertise and/or lack of it.

A massive punch up over who knows best.

Report(s) made and some personal attack posts removed

A mod bashing his head continually against a brick wall trying without success to stop the arguing that got into a continuous loop

A discussion about an overnight sleeper service train failing that should have been on a thread several Forums away. (Mod Edit: It now is!!)

And a stream of daft comments by a Yeti.

If this was on SKY people would pay good money to be able to watch all this going on! And it would probably win a BAFTA too. Or the cyber equivalent.

    Damned wonderful entertainment. :):)

Ah you mean the time the diesel ran out and they slogged a loco home on one Cylinder, I beg to differ about no request made for a diesel,
I did feel sorry for fgw having newton abbot filled up with passengers who weren't even using the services they provide, when they were trying to get people to where they need to go on service train,

Indeed but all that actually matters is whether 60009 will be ready by Saturday so I can get my streak mileage

I actually thought that the sleepers coming to halt at the same location was of some relevance.

Hopefully no9's tire issues will be in good health after this minor surgery.
