Can't be helped, if the engine isn't ready it isn't ready

This really does highlight the shortage of mainline steam locomotives just now. 2015 will prove to have seen, I suspect, the least number of mainline steam tours for donkeys years. Need to check but that's the feeling I have. Such a far cry from years gone by.

I hope things get better from here. I guess that having the B1 passing it ftr for tomorrow's cathedrals express is a start. Getting that tire repaired on no9 and having tangmere at least in good enough health is the start of putting the pieces of the puzzle back together for the rest of 2015 and into next year.

Hopefully some new engines appear for next year

I think it started when unexpectedly 5029 had to be taken out early last December . We knew that 35028, 4464 and 60007 were going to be headed to overhaul. 70013 tyres. That is a bunch right off the bat.

Out of the loop a bit these days. What's been the problem with Tangmere please? Apart from being itself that is!

So diesel from Paddington to Bishops Lydeard tomorrow and steam to Minehead for £89 standard. Compare that with a day out by FGW to Minehead tomorrow from Paddington. £74 return to Taunton ...then a bus...plus £18.50 on the WSR = £92.50+. Not what was planned but still a day out for comparable prices. It does make you realise what a good price we actually get for steam charters.

Thread drift. Sorry. But interesting eh?

It appears that Tangers suffered damage to a cross-head on the Royal Duchy a couple of weeks ago, presumably as a result of some of the slipping. There was also speculation about whether the steam reverser needed attention, but no confirmation of that.

I was kind of assuming that Tangers wouldn't be ready, so thats made up my mind about where to film. I was going to choose a spot to get both tours, but now I only have the flower to film.

That explains the lack of any loco in the prep bay tonight, just a few 47's in the yard.

The prep area nearest the mainline at Southall is only used by Icons of Steam's locos anyway.

Tangmere, 61306, etc are prepped in the shed

Out and about for another breakdown on the mainline? This is not 2012 when she was putting in flawless performances week after week. Just saying.........
Cause and effect. In fact I'm watching 2012 tours whether it was Dorsets, West Somersets, Royal Duchies, Weymouth runs I have not seen Tangmere in top form since then in terms of consistency.
