Yes, it is a bit of a pain. At lesser regulator openings, it tend to shut itself (which it didn't used to do). When it is well open it stays where you want it. However, on three coaches a wide open regulator is not really what you want.

The reason for three coaches is that, when an evening diner runs, coaches cannot be stabled in the platform and the only place for the third Pickering set is on the turntable road, which only holds three coaches.

I guessed that must be the reason. It was the first time I'd seen No.7 on such a short train since the foot and mouth crisis.

Presumably once the XP64s and the scrap Mk.1 BG and GUV are disposed of it will be possible to stable a second seven coach set in the Long Siding.

Hopefully, as the 1540 was a bit snug yesterday with only 3.

Any news on the XP64s? Are they still destined for the Mid Norfolk?

Nothing signed as yet, I believe, but thought to be close (so it is to be hoped that this disclosure is not premature!), the NYMR trust Board having agreed to its arrival last weekend. Hopefully that will give the NYMR a green one and a black one!

I'm not familiar with the site you have mentioned 9and couldn't find it with a quick search) but I would imagine that they picked it up from the same source that you probably did.

The news seems to have come from Moors Express. Quite happy for my post to be removed if it's jumping the gun.

It does sound a very attractive alternative to seeing SNG in action. A pair of B1's and K1/K4 will just finish it off nicely for a Gala Weekend!

What would be really nice would be to see a steamable G5 and J21 visit for gala - or better still based on the line!
I don't think J21s were ever seen on the line, but J25s were and they look very similar. G5s were of course regularly used on the line.

I'm going to avoid that and instead imagine that you mean that the whole line has been mysteriously relaid to Cape Gauge. ;)

Blimey, I've been away playing trains for a week without a reliable internet connection and can't keep up - I was still on #handwashgate.

Is that thread about a heritage railway charity, or is it some strange existentialist joke by a French avant garde situationist performance artist?

    Anyway, :focus:

Anyway back on topic... NYMR not WSR.... Moors Express newsletter also contained details of the visit by Flying Scotsman:

The mystery ‘VIP’ locomotive referred to in a previous edition of Moors Express, not unsurprisingly, turned out to be Flying Scotsman. In an official announcement on 16th September the National Railway Museum outlined the programme to celebrate the return to steam of this most famous of locomotives. After a couple of weekends mileage accumulation on the East Lancashire Railway in January and an inaugural run up the East Coast Main line in February, 60103 will be coming to the NYMR for the period 12th to 20th March 2016. This is a definite coup for the Railway and a great opportunity to show that we can attract worthwhile numbers of customers to a ‘star’ event out of season and away from any school holidays.

The livery is expected to be British Railways lined green (sometimes called Brunswick green) and the smoke deflectors will be fitted. Definitely something to look forward to!

Trains will run ‘non-stop’ between Pickering and Grosmont and the DMU will be in action on the opposite path. Premium fares will apply - £38 adult and £25 children (5 to 15years). There will also be special fares for members of £25 and working members £10.

I have edited my two posts due to contract not having been signed yet, and a statement made to that effect. Sorry didn't realise it was a secret, well a lot of people do know. ☺️
