Hadn't seen that account and a surprising amount of detail provided by Messrs Ewart and Radford about ELR financial arrangements of the time. Not being a matter of public record, one can only assume they sought the permission from ELR to share this, having alleged ELR itself failed to seek from Bressingham for certain things.
Not sure how detailed the loan contract was and whether it included any restrictive clauses in relation to temporary alterations nor whether any retrospective payment was made to reflect the additional ELR benefit.

6233 was inside as part of the dispaly along with other out of traffic locos such as 7828 plus a few diesels. The only other time it ventured out was to do the Bolton Street jobs mentioned above. The rest of the time it sat tantalisingly outside the CME office.
Anyhow this is a monumental thread drift!

It's in steam, look at the rest of the bunch taken on the same day, clearly shows steam at the safety valves.

With even greater thread drift, which 'preserved' locos have never been in steam since becoming preserved? I'll offer GER 87, 490 & 1217. GWR 2516 & 4073 and Gladstone as possible contenders, for starters, not forgetting 46235, of course!

Are we counting "preserved" and "unrestored" as one and the same here? If so there is the large prairie 4150 on the SVR.

Midland Railway 158A comes to mind. GWR 2818 also.

Two Rooters - Boxgrove and Waddon. The SECR D class would be nice as well...

    Does Ellerman Lines count? ;)

I think if 35029 steams it would overtake 71000's ressurection!

Various bits of it have been making their way down to Bridgnorth over the last year or so (probably for longer than that but the trickle is turning into a stream now. I understand the boiler is to go into the shop 2016/17 depending on completion of other projects. Its one I'm glad to see progressing, last Barry wreck on the valley and all that.

Tom - Boxgrove? - I think that you are getting Birch Grove and Boxhill mixed up. Perhapse we can rechristen the E4 Birch Hill?

Other than the cut cylinder, would the restoration be that unthinkable? Didn't 34027 as an example have most of its boiler cut out and replaced recently and then there's also a complete(?) set of motion and (most of) a tender...
It could arguably be at a better starting point than 71000 was

I think we're now into a thread drift of a thread drift of a thread drift!
