My brother had a ride yesterday and I told him to wipe his feet before stepping on to the platforms. It was a bit of a foggy start but the pictures turned out just fine

I do hope there is not going to be an unseemly struggle on the outward journey. Resulting in the Crown being worn by Queen Nicola on the return run.

    ;)

As one would expect the BBC News 24 channel is giving coverage and just paid a quick visit to Edinburgh with the promise of going back when Her Majesty arrives.

They may have had their budget slashed but standards are being maintained.

    Jolly good show.

10.33 has come and gone and no return BBC coverage,, and no report of the departure on RTT yet.

Oh, BBC just reported bad weather has delayed the Queen arriving at Edinburgh by 40 minutes! Hope she doesn't get billed for the delay minutes caused by her train running late.

I say, it's not often on What's Going On we can get a live video of the departure.

    Just off now, 42 late.

Great live footage on the BBC News channel. Lump in the throat job when the chime whistle blasted.

Pity about the orange clad, hard hat, person who appeared on the scene as the train was ready to leave potentially spoiling the whole spectacle. I suspect there were a few on the platform who told him where to go! And he did.

Unusual I believe for a Royal Train, but it's dropped time on the schedule from Newcraighall, nearly 7 minutes. If RTT is correct.

It's polite to be slightly late to allow your hosts some last minute recovery time.

Did I overhear the DofE mentioning the box and that he would be posting on NP later..

Congratulations and respect to all in the rail industry who made today happen in the face of awesome difficulties and doubts. There is an industry shared heritage - almost a law by which they live - that when it comes to the VVIP Train, even the most Republican of railwaymen put on the Big Show with elan and grace. That heritage is alive and well and is being watched by TV audiences around the globe, right now.

2015 has been main line steam’s “annus horribilis” and yet steam is still entrusted with the Head of State. We should not miss the point of that.

Hats off to John Cameron, DBS, Network Rail, everyone who burned the midnight oil to make sure No 9 was there, the new owner of Pegasus for turning out his coach in proper Pullman Car Co condition, and to Covenantor Castle for providing essential back up and confidence when the flunkier elements at Court would have been getting very wobbly about steam hauling it at all.

Well I hope he doesn't clutter up this thread and goes to the actual "diesel on back" thread, or he risks getting moderated.

A ;) for the Royalists amongst us.

PS. I am not a royalist as such, but I do respect the way she has done her job over many decades.

So nice to see that of the reception party on the platform she spent the most time with and talking to the loco crew who had got off the loco to greet her.

While the D of E had found someone on the loco to talk to as he passed by.

    Good on yer both.

Just watched the arrival at Tweedbank on BBC News. John Cameron had a good natter to her Maj, and introduced her the crew (inc Steve Hanczar ?) where she received a few grubby handshakes, whilst Phil had poke about U0SA. Excellent stuff.

Very good live coverage now on BBC. QE seen chatting to enginemen and Duke trying to cab No 9. What an honour for John Cameron. Agree with sentiments expressed Yeti.

Having grown up walking over the abandoned formation of the 'Waverley Route', it was rather emotional experience to witness 60009 become the first steam locomotive to attack Falahill Bank in over 47 years! Hopefully this line proves to be a catalyst for further re-openings.
