2807 is nothing compared to 4270, the tank is absolutely dreadful! I always drink me tea in the buffet car when the 42 tank is on the front, as it's easier to mop up than in first class!

My oldest, then about 7 was highly amused on a WSR Gala when the Super D threw half my tea into the saucer - we were in the (hush hush) QB coaches just behind the engine

  3. In years past when we ran a full walk-on hot meal service during galas we had to take our chances with rostered engines. While having a visiting engine up front was always good for business, the freight types were often challenging for the QB crew, particularly those in the kitchen. The experience behind an extremely rough (4)6100 was the most memorable, for all the wrong reasons. On that particular occasion, with hindsight, an eight-coupled job would have been much preferred.

The recently published draft minutes of the PDG suggest that the WSRA holds the lease and the PLC sub leases some of it. The minutes also state that the lease cannot be extended beyond 2017. That probably means the owner wants to up the charge too much.

That's an interesting approach. In my experience, jerking is more likely with a slack coupling. Again, in my experience, jerking is more likely with a 'soft' drawbar spring. If it can be tightened, or better still replaced with a stiffer spring, it helps. However, there are a multitude of reasons why you get oscillations on the train and some locos are more prone to it than others. GWR types certainly do seem to be high on the list but they aren't unique. Short cut-offs at low speeds can certainly lead to an uncomfortable ride.
One thing a drive can never do is experience his own driving from the train and rough riding is rarely noticeable on the loco.

I see the main WSRA thread has been locked again as I tried to edit a post. No announcement as to why. Am I guilty again?:)

The WSRA thread has been pulled for review, due to some rather intemperate posts.

As many will know, I have lived in the Station Master's House at Stogumber for the past couple of years. Having sorted the house out, am now working on the garden, to roll back 25 years of neglect, and to make some minor improvements. I always did prefer daylight, and its a wonderful place to watch the trains from, especially in the Up direction as they start away from a stop at the Station.

Kettle always on, for (almost) anyone who is passing from the Forum....

Any other Station House dwellers on the Forum?

    kind regards

    Robin White

Everyone form an Dis orderly queue outside Robin's door in that case,:) how big is your tea pot? do you ever get the feeling that your never far from your hobby though? living that close you must sometimes want to shut the shutters, bolt all the doors and scream "1'm not in " when someone comes knocking saying we are a signalman short. or can you help us out at the station?

David Randles is working on repairing them right now. Give him an hour and it should all be available.
