Taken just over 4 hours Carlisle to Settle (assuming this is 5043 limping back to carnforth)

Looks like the charter itself is back to RT now. At least the punters will be home on time. A shame the Castle never made it to the coast line. I can't remember the last time a Castle did go along the Cumbrian Coast, if ever?

Footage of 5043 flying up Grayrigg bank near Hay Fell, along with a shot of steam on the Ratty and what should have been the shot of the Earl at Eskmeals...

Yes, a real pity and sympathy goes out to all of those involved, both passengers and the Tyseley men. Who could have imagined that the week would end with two significant hot box incidents with 5043 and 46115 Scots Guardsman.

As someone said elsewhere, things can only get better. Roll on 2016 with a clean sheet!

I came across THIS really funny video from Salterwath where the Castle gets upstaged with a classic bit of photo bombing! :)

    I love that horse!

It was a pretty good climb considering we hit Tebay at below 70MPH (I dare not even try to be accurate with a crappy GPS phone app), TSR in the Lune Gorge ?, unfortunate and rare issue with the Earl, but just glad we took the booked route as I specifically booked the tour for the coast, I almost forgot the 47 was upfront as progress so brisk by railtour standards, TBH I don't know what people who call that line boring are on about, it was lovely, rather Cambrian Coast like IMO.

Not unusual to hit Tebay below 70. Some drivers don't rush Shap and achieve better summit speeds. Someone compared 5043 to the Duke. In the Shap trials 71000 was only allowed to do 60 passing Tebay yet achieved 51 mph at the summit with 11.

Or the horse said, "Damn I lost RTT when my phone battery went flat, she must have made good time from Carnforth".
