The Clayton and 1015 are there. Im rather looking forward to the Clayton, had it there in 98 but hopfully this year it'll go a bit further north than Arley.

Even the 20 and 50 are cleaner at startup than a VW!

Hmm, I'll remember that next time my eyes are watering from the fumes after going through the tunnel with '19 on the front.

Confession time, at last years event when we came through the tunnel with 19 and with all smoke and noise for a split second I was 15 and coming out of New Street with 37401 on the Holyheads. Had a little lump in my throat, my eyes were watering anyway! By the way kje if you can I'd reccomend a run behind D7076, that machine goes like excrement off a shovel when it gets going!

D7076 has to be seen and heard to be believed.

It is an interesting what if with regards to the Clayton and other modernisation scheme engines seen as failures.

The Claytons were withdrawn fairly early on by BR due to reliability issues but the one surviving one went on to give many years of service as an industrial loco.

Perhaps the problems they faced were just one problem too many for BR and in the light of falling traffic it was though sod it, get rid, don't try and fix?

Also maybe 25 mph running is what it is more suited for.

You may well be right, although I guess it didn't often do much more on BR on unfitted freight. :)

Also it helps that it's a bit better looked after these days. No more 'kick it out it'll be alright'

Probably the same for a lot of locos, both steam and diesel.
