    Perhaps not strictly a mainline working, but the ELR's Austerity 'Swiftsure' deputised for a diesel last night on a Metrolink ballast working:

    Does that mean that Metro Link have no access to suitable diesels? But anyway all credit to ELR for getting that job.

    I believe from WNXX that the ELR hire diesels to metrolink from time to time, but none was available. I would imagine this works out cheaper.

    That's really cool. Harks back to 'Henbury' working the coal trains on the docks in the 1980s.
