When you have to fix 'em you tend to look after 'em! As Mr Price once said to me :)

I've got my moves sorted out. I was a little worried that the 17 was having a running day but my mind's been put at ease!:) I'm going behind it as much as possible, which means sacrificing the 50 almost completely but I'll get one run from Bewdley to Kidder in just to say that I've done them all!

More than likely that the current owners had the time to identify - and fix - the faults which BR staff were unable to do because of staff shortages. It's also possible that the current owners - having identified the problems - are now happy to live with them whilst in BR days the fall-out from Beeching had produced surplus locomotives that were available as replacements especially in the Type 2 (Classes 24 / 25 / 27) range.

But the interesting point about the Claytons was that there were 3 variants : (a) the original as epitomised by D8568 with GEC traction motors (b) D8586/7 fitted with Rolls Royce engines and GEC traction motors (c) 8588 - 8616 built by Beyer Peacock and fitted with Crompton Parkinson traction motors. I seem to recall that locos in (c) were well regarded but suffered the same fate as the other variants because of their poorer reputation whilst D8568 only survived because it was sold into industry thus avoiding the scrap man.

Having been familiar with the type since seeing D8500 on its first test run in June 1962 I'm looking forward to renewing acquaintance with the beast as its pair of Paxmans make an unbelievable sound - and I have been told that both engines are working so hope both will be used together during the event.

1st time in ages I think. It was only one engine in 98. It would have needed 2 at the NYMR

Would be a nice pairing to see D9531 and D8568 heading through the valley; a triple Paxman at full roar would be an unforgettable experience !

Dreadful! 7029 is a pioneer of preservation (as is the Castle it shares its number with) really is time this beast got to grips with Eardington, Highley, and Foley Park! I do have a type 3 thing I must confess :)
