A reputation for both galas is built in that potential fare paying visitors know what to expect (re TT and diagrams) and they wont have to pay extra for something that should be free.

Any locos facing towards Swanage for this or are they all facing away from Swanage?

80104 will be, and maybe 30053 but as she is doing some DH guessing she'll more than likely be turned.

image.jpeg All things being equal, the freight train should have four (yes, 4!) new wagons in it for next weekend's gala. Here's a bit of a glimpse of one of them in Swanage shed this evening...please ignore the numbers being too close together, its my first attempt at signwriting!

For those who like the authentic sets, this year the 2 Bulleids will be accompanied by the 6-wheeled milk tank; just the job for a west country branch line.

Do we yet know the final direction engines will be facing? From previous posts look like 3012o smokebox first from Swanage as presumably 30053 will be. But what about 31806, 30777 and 34070?

    Thanks

    Don

34070 faces Norden today. Couldn't see 777 or 1806, are they en route?
Both tanks face Swanage direction at the mo.

    34070 / 30120 / 777 face Wareham.

U-Boat to be turned tomorrow, unsure what else may / may not happen.

All tender engines face Norden. 80104 will face Swanage all weekend, while 30053 starts the weekend facing Swanage, but is turned tomorrow before its double header with 30120. We will then turn it back to face Swanage when it finishes on Saturday evening.

As I understand it, 'Cloister' will be in steam on Saturday and Sunday doing 'Driver for a Fiver' on the mining museum's running line.

had a good day today watching the Gala locomotives.
Very enjoyable...always good to see the goods train!

might post a few photographs and videos
    later......many thanks....

    Swanage Railway.

{There was a rather rude member of staff at Corfe Castle Station.
ordering people not to go beyond the start of the platform ramps! Me included...I was several paces away...even put cones down !
I did challenge him..no uniform just a SR sweatshirt...he said he was station staff....he manage to wind quite a few people up with is rude commands!
    So it goes!}

That's a shame. In my experience, SR staff are really helpful and friendly. From this comment I exclude the so called "official photographer", who feels it necessary to wear his hi-viz uniform on station platforms, ruining the photos of countless customers. Today was a classic case in point at Corfe. All other SR staff were removing their hi-viz on the platform, but not our dear ApmW, shooting his two millionth photo of the day.

He was docile when we saw him so I can't comment. What I can say is that we had a great day travelling and linesiding with everything on time.

I've been at the gala today until 3 pm. Corfe Castle was lovely - everyone very friendly and the lady in booking office very informative.

I did find Swanage infested with orange jackets, and wonder whether quite so many are needed in appeasing the elfansafety taleban. Also, 80104 blowing off very noisily in the station and a lot of cylinder drain cocks being cleared, which ruined a lot of photos of trains starting from Swanage. The photographer at 14.30 may be the same guy as bought a ticket to ride earlier in the day, like me!
