    Torpedo wagons.
Does anyone else think that at least one of them should be kept as an example of special industrial vehicles?
Whether or not it is actually kept in running condition.
Would it be suitable as an exhibit for Beamish or even NRM at Shildon?

Are they the heaviest wagons in the country?

    For how much longer?
If the news is to be believed about prospects at Scunthorpe and other steelworks.

    Yes, undoubtedly.
I wonder if @Anthony Coulls could express an opinion?

A bit off topic, but if Scunny goes under, will we have to go abroad for slab for loco frames?

Steel plate will always be available in the UK and there will be companies able to profile it.

How so? If we don't make it then you have to import it.

Sorry thought you were saying that the frames would have to be made overseas.

And so it came to pass, Scunthorpe plate mill to be mothballed. Hopefully everyone who needs a set of frames already has them? Certainly both P2s and the Clan have theirs.

Sad though the closure is, I'm not sure how it would stop anyone making a set of frames.

May make getting the specified grade of steel correct a bit more difficult and lead time may be a bit longer.

Yep, that was my thinking. Cost may be an issue too.

As recounted elsewhere, we are having no problems getting correct grade steels from China and elsewhere, and wasn't the reason that the UK plants are closing the fact that imported steel is cheaper?

Common in other business sectors is a problem with fake conformity documentation for products originating in the far East. Worth bearing in mind when sourcing apparently cheaper product. Remember the stays?

We employ inspectors from Lloyds or DNV GL to check processes and documentation, plus further independent analysis laboratories to check material samples.

And the overall product cost is still cheaper than local more reputable sources?

We would carry out the same QA process for steel from other sources.
