At the risk of going slightly off-topic (although there are a few people on this forum who maintain that all GWR 4-6-0s look more or less the same!) I noted a picture in Railway Magazine of one of 6024's new slim-line cylinders, where the dimensions of the actual hole through which the piston travels remains the same size, but the casing round it is made of modern, very strong metal and thus not so thick and obtrusive. The desire to improve 6024's route availability has been widely mentioned in the railway media but I'd be interested to know if there are any specific routes on which it is desired to operate 6024 from which it was previously banned.

No way that's practical: the Red Funnel charge for the crossing would be in 7 figures...

Hauling ex LT stock of course with it painted in the dinosaur livery eh?!! As for other routes I keep telling that even after the re-gauging and these new cylinders there is no way it will fit over the WHR/FR :p:D

Anyway Ryde - Shanklin is only for running in prior to 6024 taking up residence on the South Bedfordshire Railway

Good picture that! A railway locomotive on board a road low loader (about to go) on board a ship. What could have been added? A model aircraft in the bunker?:)
