Steam locos with air brakes

Virtually everything on t'other side of the channel! (Puts on DB uniform and runs for cover!)

 

Both the Planet & Rocket replicas are air braked though different configurations.

On a similar topic I wonder how many coaches that can be either vacuum or air braked depending on what's hauling them.

A4s and MNs are steam braked with vacuum on the tender and I think the three examples you mention retain this configuration.

 

Never seen a steam braked A4.

That clearly states Locomotive 6223, Duchess of Sutherland on the pdf. But regardless is very interesting to view.

Looks almost the same as Tornado.

 

AD600 'Gordon' must surely be air-braked? It has dual train brakes, but not 100% sure about the loco brakes.

 

The loco and tender are steam braked.

 

My apologies, just goes to show you can't believe all you read, I got my information from an article in an old magazine stating that Bulleid imported much from his time with the LNER including, pull out regulator and braking system. At least they were right about the regulator.

 

AFAIK A lot of German NG lines were vac braked...............

 

A lot of Swiss narrow gauge lines still are, meaning even new stock is dual braked.
