A 1500 ton auto-ballaster train arrived on Tuesday 7th October and deposited ballast on the relaid track between Creech Bottom and Furzebrook.
This section of line has been relaid with concrete sleepers and continuously welded flat bottom rail. The relay will reduce maintenance works in an environmentally sensitive area - at this point the line is within a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
After dropping ballast, the train worked on to Corfe Castle where the Class 66 locomotive ran round for the return to the national network. The returning train then collected 6 Sea Urchin wagons that had been used to move spoil from the new road rail interchange at Norden to be deposited on Embankment 4.

All things being equal, we should have four (yes, 4!) new wagons appearing in the freight train for this year's gala. Just as a bit of a teaser, here's a bit of a glimpse of one of them in Swanage shed this evening...please ignore the numbers being too close together, its my first attempt at signwriting!

I see on the Swanage Railway website that 30120 is in use today (Monday 12th) and when I rang the railway up, I was informed it will also be in use on Wednesday (14th). It is Smokebox-first out of Swanage. No idea if the Devon Belle Saloon is in use at the moment (if so, it's usually coupled behind the engine coming out of Swanage.) 30120 is off to the Mid-Hants after the Swanage gala. Does anyone know where it will be going after that?

The saloon is in use and on the Norden end of the train. 30120 service engine. 80104 in steam at Swanage. M7 was out too yesterday.

Thank you, 26D_M. Shame about that saloon. I was thinking of coming over on Wednesday for a ride and a couple of pictures, but in the light of your news, I think I'll give it a miss and go for the Friday or Saturday of the gala instead when hopefully it will be coupled to a set of coaches that doesn't have the saloon immediately behind the engine.

Back to Swanage. Timeline Events have a charter on the line with the T9 in November.

Thank you, kind sir. For what you are saying, it looks like if I don't make it to Swanage this week, hopefully I'll get another chance.

Trains will be arriving at Wareham in June next year, and there will be two timetables for next year.
Norden Nest buffet will close on the 1st November and RMB 1865 will be moved to allow a line of sight for trains leaving The station.
Also looks like there is good progress at Norden with the RRI and the crossing instillation.

As one who used to enjoy the T9 at Bodmin, I'm wondering when she will return to Cornwall? Anyway, I shall make the pilgrimage to Swanage this Friday; I've been missing her.

More than likely it will be June but you never know what could happen.

Get the impression the T9 will return to Cornwall end of the year.

What's happening with the T9 as it was suppose to leave at the end of October, left to go to the MHR and then came back. So far I know it will be at the railway until January as it is scheduled to do the winter warm up.

It was announced somewhere the T9 / M7 are booked to do the WW alongside the 33. Can't find it on the website though...

Sorry John, had a bit of an extended 'radio silence' through not being able to get onto NatPres in the office at the moment; this weekend is planned to be 30120.

Thanks Nick. May well be over tomorrow. 30120 was the engine I was hoping for (no disrespect to 80104, 34070, 30053 or 31806!)

    Much appreciated.
