    I understand that B1 61306 will haul this service throughout from Victoria to Minehead and return, with the assistance of a WCRC Class 47 diesel at the rear.

    A long two hours each way between Reading and Victoria is normal but no joke. Thinking of the water situation again with the B1, Woodborough to Victoria (3 hours) probably was another factor in making WCRC add a diesel to the mix. Changing from Paddington to Victoria just makes the trip unworkable as a steam only trip with a small locomotive.

    Interesting that the WSR website states that the train will be assisted over the WSR gradients by D1661 which is a WSR engine. Will it also have a minder on the main line section? If so why?

The original information from WSR did suggest D1661 would assist over the branch but later information received here from WSR Ops said this was a local misunderstanding and that a West Coast 47 would accompany the train throughout the whole journey (see news page on www.wsr.org.uk ) Not quite sure why the official website hasn't picked up on this correction. It seems D1661 will be in use that day but on WSR stock movements. Happy to be corrected!

    Does anyone know how it is planned to turn 61306 'MAYFLOWER' after the train has reached Minehead on the West Somerset Railway. Will the turntable there be put in to operation or will 61306 be "turned" on the Norton Fitzwarren Triangle. Personally I'm hoping for the turntable. Thank you in advance to anyone who posts a reply to my query.

    It is planned to be turned on the turntable at Minehead. There is not enough time to send the loco from Minehead to Norton Fitzwarren and back again, especially when there is the means to turn it only a few yards away!

    Does anyone know what's happened to Mayflower at Reading? Arrived c.22L and hasn't departed as of 11:20 according to RTT.

    Could be RTT having a funny 5 minutes...

    So what we are seeing here is the proper placement of additional motive power when it is intended that the diesel will be providing a significant measure of assistance on the trip, as will happen with 11 on.

    Suggestions on facebook that there is a defect on the second to last coach, at Reading, it might need to be removed. Not so easy when you've put the class 47 inside behind the B1 .

    A certain irony there with the diesel where it is! And P8 out of action for two hours while they sort it out. On the move again now it seems. Probably diesel haulage to the water stop as it's a while since the B1 had a drink.
