Due to the virtual complete unpredictability of steam tours this year I have not done one.

Decided to give Hastings Diesels (sorry did not mean to swear) a whirl on Saturday to Salisbury, which is somewhere I need to visit for a bit of research at the cathedral.

It's mainline activity and it's near me so why not? lot cheaper for club class.

Is anyone else going? guess there won't be any piccies and vids reported here on Saturday! I can hear the groans of horror from here!!:p:p

This thread may find itself among friends if moved to the Diesel & Electric Traction section?

If I was around I would go out and photograph it as it always good to see a Thumper out on the mainline.

Why move it? it's main line activity and a tour, apologies if this main line tours board is restricted to steam.

Yes, I'm hoping that we get into Salisbury a few minutes before Tangmere thunders through, that will be a bonus!

[Edit] Correction on that - Salisbury is a watering stop for the steam special

1001 is an honorary steam loco and I have had many trips with this superb unit. Will be linesiding on Saturday.

Really. What is the attraction. Surely it is a set of coaches with some electric traction? Or have I misssed something? Certainly not something that would stop a football match!!! Each to his own I guess. Whatever floats your boat.

More chance of me getting there and back on the Hastings tour than the steam special with Tangmere pulling it!

As a hardened steam man, I still have wonderful memories from many decades ago of sitting in Hastings units throbbing their way up though Sevenoaks tunnel etc. As brother Don says so well, honorary steam.

And in the event, totally true today it seems.

Yes really. My interest is railways not just steam locomotives.

Football? Rather overrated in my view but if you like it, so be it.

Yes A good one for my first on Hastings Diesels, back spot on time and they looked after us well.

Quite happy with £84 club class for a rake of coaches with an electric motor somewhere than £209 club class for a rake of coaches with an electric motor somewhere on the parallel abortive Tangmere tour.

Surprised me the number of line-siders for this tour.

Would rather do a steam tour but can see me doing another of these as well.

Re diesel tours, personally I wish there was more promotion on here for specials of non-steam traction. Have sometimes missed them through forgetting to check relevant calendars.

You only need to look at the WCRC website to see the many diesel hauled rail tours that they operate every week during most of the year.
