That's what I was thinking of.

A Class 50 would dwarf the Ivatt, it's a 2-10-0 for starters! Still, based on what they were shooting last night I don't think there will be more than a few seconds on screen for us to spot the difference.

Is it that the loco should really be in brunswick green and have a double chimney with those type of smoke deflectors?

No, custom made for the film by a metalworker somewhere.

I think so, though I'm no expert on Class 50's, I just read a few more paragraphs on Wikipedia than the film crew managed!

For what the film crew wanted, on the budget they had, the Ivatt is a fair substitute. As one of the crew pointed out, nearly everyone who watches the film wouldn't be able to tell much difference between the two even if they were side by side!

Given that they were bothering to disguise it at all, why on earth didn't they cover up the large BR number on the cabside?

The number was partially hidden behind some black wax before the shooting started. I was more surprised they didn't want to cover up the large "G" and "W" on the Toad brakevan we had at the back of the train!

Actually both 46443 & 46521 were used in the film.

Oops! You're right. The Robert in the Seven Percent Solution was Robert Duvall.

Yes I painted both of them and then painted them back again! a busy time for me and Bob Timmins who did the lining. All work was done outside at the mercy of the elements. :)

The deflectors should be squared-off at the back and angled downwards towards the front...?
