You don't really believe that do you Al? With NR anything is possible. I have already booked on this trip so I hope you are right.

Any more news on this one? I'm supposed to be on it but not sure that I'll bother if it's hauled by an oily box.

I understand from a source at the highest level that this train will run via Surbiton, Salisbury and Honiton to Exeter and should have a good path down the main line.

What another almighty mess - a classic SR loco banned from one of its former key routes! Does anyone have any idea of the timings for tomorrow now that the main line is to be used with no water stops, etc? I assume it joins the SWML at Wimbledon after running via Balham?

For what its worth RTC have told me that it isn't gauging for if it was they would have run with Tangmere to Salisbury and DL from there. Apparently the engine isn't ready.

Despite having been seen in steam at least a couple of days ago? Odd - but thanks for the further information.

I am passing on what RTC have told me but I agree it seems a bit odd

No mention of that in the email I have received from RTC. I'm supposed to be boarding at Staines - except that I won't be as I'm not spending a day being hauled by a gurgling and spluttering box!

Anyway thanks to Don for the information

Sorry crossed wires. I was replying to a thread about next April's Tornado trip to Exeter.

Don't forget that the problem was the OTMR system. Just because Tangmere came up from Bristol in steam under diesel haulage doesn't necessarily mean that it had been fixed to run on its own.

Don't you mean a Diesel locomotive, not a spluttering box ?

Spluttering boxes have English electric 12 and 16 cylinder Diesel engines.
Class 47s, being powered by Sulzer engines, are not Spluttering Boxes.

Anyway, shame it isn't steam hauled like it was supposed to be. Roll on all those mainline engines (re)entering service sometime next year. Some of them are even quite good: 34046, 70000, 70013, 35018.

The're all soulless boxes of no interest to me and I would not travel if I'd been promised steam haulage.

Anybody know what "oily box" is working this? I presume you mean a diesel so just wondered which one..

Just been told it was 37518 and 47854 on the ECS so I guess the 47 will do the train to Yeovil

Did it get there and back ok. With this year's luck even the 47 liable to fail.

Right time arrival at Victoria.. 37518 worked the return, not sure if the 37 went all the way but it was on the front at Sherborne..

Nice film. Quite a claggy departure on the 47 shots too.
