Who for? The only place where it might be used properly (with electricity) is the swanage. Who has it at the moment?

Any sort of EMU would not be my own choice but everyone is entitled to their choice.
What I would say is take a look around at other "Preserved" EMU's and ask the question, Will mine look like this in the future?
What railway will accept it as a piece of rolling stock?

that's the main part that I'm currently hitting the wall with is a possible base and Swanage have said No , looking at 1497 and then looking at pictures of 1498 , 1498 could look like that if the funds and volunteers/members were out there,

I wonder if Swanage might say Yes if you actually finish it but the problem is if the 4TC group would object. You could ask the 4TC group if they liked the idea. Would the Cig be able to drag the TC?

3cig only runs Via 3rd rail unless dragged by a diesel, got to finish setting up a group, buy her, move her, before we can finish her. Will be nice to restore her

Sorry I didn't make myself clear! I meant on the Mainline would it be powerful enough to pull the TC?

Sounds like a great idea Stuart after your success of buying and restoring GWR 2859

I'm unsure Adam, wishihadaname if i had people come forward to help get the group up and running I would have got further than I did, but no one came forward even when I asked. I have some people interested in seeing her restored and interested in helping/joining up if a group was up and running .

As had been said before why not join an existing group rather than trying to start a new group just so you can be in charge.

@stuartreeder . I suppose I should admire your persistence after the aforementioned 2859 , Olwen/tank engine preservation group and now this . To come back on here , you either have some courage or madness given the earlier reception

Electric vehicles sadly get a raw deal in the preservation world being not the most useful on account of lack of power !

It may well be a dumb question but is this even for sale. What money do you have of your own to put into this ,what skills to make this happen ? Once you have restored it how do you generate enough funds to maintain it ?

No offence but given your track record and probably responsibilities now , invest your time in a current scheme , learn the ropes and channel your enthusiasm

CIG s like most southern EMU have 4 x 250Hp OR 270 Hp motors. This would only give around 10000 Hp for 7 cars. It would struggle to keep up with timetabled trains

abit of both i think , yes it's been up for sale since February 2014 atleast , that depends on what interest is out there and I don't mind getting on with the dirty tasks , painting , etc . Sales stalls , static display hiring it out to railways even if it's for use as coaching stock and any other way the group could think of,

could always upgrade the traction motors or put another coach in the set with traction motors on.

Ideally you would need a second MBSO complete with traction motors and controlgear

Sorry for asking but what happened with 2859? How is that relevant?

Totally agree. Acommon control system and common couplings made for flexibility. One winters morning at Staplehurst with nothing running due to iced up conductor rails, an up train approached at speed - headcode 56 a boat train. 3 CEP units came past followed by a 73 and the coaches from the Night Ferry. The 73 was on diesel to give a shove if power was lost. There was no crew in the 73 but it opened up as it passed to meet the increase in gradient. The front CEP was controlling the 73s diesel

But what has happened to them? How is it at all relevant?❓
