Do the VCT know you've got them?....

The more I look they do look like LMS Vans - and a mate & I discovered a very similar grounded body in the New Forest that they didn't know existed!

One of the pictures shows the TOPS code VVV, and another has a tare weight in kg, both of which suggest they were still in use as late as the mid 1970s. I remember seeing many similar van bodies taken away for use by farmers while the chassis and wheels were cut for scrap.

It also carries the repair code "5 80/6003", which means it was in traffic after May 1980. It's a BR Standard 12ton, vacuum brake fitted, ventilated van, thus the TOPS code VVV.
Probably built sometime in the early/mid 1950s. Hundreds, if not thousands, of these and similar pre-nationalisation van bodies were sold, mainly for use as farm sheds. When I farmed in Suffolk in the 1970s/80s a Mr Loades, from Beccles, was selling them for £50 to 60 each! They made excellent pig or calf shelters and judging by the condition of the floor, this one may have had that use.
