Was there a published timetable for today's running ? I didn't see one. I take it, this all about the media being present. I Cant even begin to imagine the amount of people that will be lineside tomorrow. Hopefully it won't get out of hand.

A bit of 4472 nostalgia. Doing what it should be doing at a location now changed out of all recognition. Enjoy the next 10 years as having got their fingers burnt on this overhaul I'm not sure the NRM will want to put it through another one.
Apologies for the quality but it is a scanned Agfa slide (should have used K2 all those years ago)

Hopefully the next ten-year overhaul will not be as dramatic as what has just happened, indeed one hopes that Ian in conjuction with the NRM will have a proper programme of planned maintenance in place, including possibly a five-year "intermediate".

Ian keeps his "5"s up and running with proper maintenance schedules, so no reason to assume 60103 will end up in circa ten years with the whole job worn out again.

Finally emerging into the light - accompanied by Ian Riley's 45407 to provide air braking.

What a great day. My eyes leaked when I saw the report on the BBC website. After a long time 60103 has finally returned to the Headlines for Good news reports rather than Bad news :)
Well done to the good folks at Riley and Sons. You should be very proud (even though she isn't a Class 5 but she is Black!)

Love the photograph, but that's a very silly thing to say. If 60103 now has an uneventful and reliable period of running and, at the end of that run, no major problems and a straight forward overhaul is budgeted for and possible, why should the NRM shy away from overhauling again what is now their prized and very commercially strong asset?

I have loved watching the coverage come in today and I am looking forward to booking my tickets behind her on a mainline run soon. She's back: and that's all that counts now.

Not at all - the livery is prototypical for the loco in that form (single chimney, 2 tenders...) :p

I am sure Ian is just saying that so he can get 45407 on the National News and in the Newspapers tomorrow.......................;)
She is jealous as 44871 has appeared in Coronation Street.

    Great picture Fred.

In that picture, and especially in comparison with the black Class 5, FS seems to be very pale black.

Err not quite as 4472 it was a right hand drive A1 or A10 as they were later classified. It does represent an A3 in typical 1930s condition which is good enough for me

Apart from the predictable item from the Daily Star it's nice to see some good objective reporting rather than the usual patronising claptrap we normally get from the media on all things railway.
