Difficult to start up any thread at the moment, with the future of WCR up in the air ! Be nice to see 45212 on the mainline. You can never have to many Black Fives.

At present we only have 44871, 45231 & 45407 on the mainline as 44932's out undergoing an overhaul & 45305 needs new tyres which is why she hasn't been seen on the mainline for some time. 2016 Will have the riley duo as usual working the Jacobite alongside a few Tin Bath and other tours and 45231 is planned to move to Southall for 2016 which means we wont have any black 5's on the mainline in the north west until 45212's completed when 45231 goes south & the other 2 head north. I doubt 45212 will be ready for Feb 14th though.

Just seen the note about the Double 5XP's, wasn't planning to go on the tour but seeing as it's a rare double header im so booking on now. Was supposed to happen last January on the WCME and then in March on the Hadrian but both were taken off the first and on the Hadrian only 1 was on the train. Hopefully it's 3rd time lucky.

Any reroute will be by NR, I can't see RTC doing it since as you say it defeats the original concept.

Might the change if route be enforced by the change of motive power perhaps?

Is a Jubilee that much different/bigger than a 5? and if it is that's still NR's ruling isn't it.

It's not a given that a Jub is as route friendly as a 5, but yes if you want to be pedantic, NR gives the permission of traction / route. My apologies.

Moral, check with the man who knows,

"The only steam that can go that way, (the original route), are Stanier Fives, and none of ours will be available, planned winter maintenance on 45407 and 44871 has been delayed by manpower being diverted onto 4472 in order to get the loco finished on time, and 45212 is planned to visit KWVR first, so alternative Stanier Power will be hauling the February Tin Bath"

Thanks to Ian for that info.

Official confirmation of the fact I suggested ie change of locos meant the route had to be changed, which the TOC presumably recognised, applied for a change, without the intervention of NR?
I accept through that it is ultimately NRs requirement that the original route is not permissible for the new motive power.

As its going via Mirfield, presumably it will be going via Moorthorpe and Fitzwilliam and taking the freight-only Crofton loop to reach Wakefield Kirkgate? Providing there is a reprieve after 20 January, that's actually quite an interesting proposition, as I understand Sheffield-Wakefield Kirkgate sees very little steam these days. It could all have been avoided if the Horbury West Curve remained in operation.

*Update* Done the research, and it is planned to do the above. Its also planned to take-in Altrincham, another fairly rare route. Under ordinary circumstances, there's more than enough going on for me in that itinerary to go ahead and book it, but I'll be holding fire until we are clear what the short-term future holds for WCRC.

Does that then mean CLC and Hartford curve onto WCML? Then an even rarer bit of track.

It looks it, as its in RTC's revised write-up for the tour. Those boarding at Man-Pic are given the opportunity to get off before it tours north Cheshire, and returns to Wigan via the WCML. A cracking itinerary if all goes according to plan- just a shame about the current climate of uncertainty. I already have £276 tied-up in forthcoming tours, so I'd rather not sink any more money into it until we know what's happening.

At the risk of tempting fate I'd venture that given the planned locos and the quite unusual route deviations from the traditional Tin Bath, this may be one of the trips of the year....all other things being equal!
