What about the spur for the Meon Valley line as a site for extra storage? apart from probably lacking road access ? don't really know the railway well enough to know why this cant be done !

I fear that horse has already bolted - the very narrow strip of land is at a far lower level than the railway - the two pictures of Alton station and the 9f were taken from my Son's flat, which is on the first floor and still a lot lower than the station. The shot of Nelson shows the fence, although doesn't convey the narrowness of the strip of land

This area on the railway is a well known for vandalism. Also from memory there is a possibility of a new housing estate being built in this area of the town at some point.

The bush telegraph can report that 76017 boiler had its hydraulic test today... hopefully it passed with flying colours.

Another one where all the pieces are ready just got to put the jig saw back together after many years apart!

These 2 great videos popped up on YouTube yesterday which were produced in part by the MHR. The first one is about Canadian Pacific and her current overhaul featuring some great shots and I even make a small cameo during the boiler lift scenes

The second one Canadian Pacific video produced featuring the history of 35005 and its worth watching the video alone for the great shots of the original condition batch 1s in action.

Great vids. I like the morphing at the end, from dismantled run down state, to gleaming ex works!

I think they have a lot to do with the Heritage Lottery funding brief, ie engage Joe Public & get the pennies rolling in......... as there is a shortfall to make up & the lottery grant gives the project momentum & breathing space to raise the necessary. ;) :)

I agree - great shots of the engine but shame about the awful background music.

In the short term this is the only viable place, though several elements of what you suggest are not needed. The retaining wall for example. There would be no intention to provide safe access for anyone other than a PTS holder though, and to avoid signalling issues the access would not be from the Medstead end.

The stub of the Meon Valley is a possibility as well.

There are no easy options though.

Bit of a pain having to register everthing for the mainline and ring Woking everytime you want to add a carriage to the train though, but I suppose if we are in fantasy land we could swap platforms and let SWT use plat 3 and a new plat 4 built on a cantilevered retaining wall, and use plat 1 & 2 for the MHR.

Fingers crossed she will, if the powers that be listen to what folks would like to see. ;)

Though given recent events, there maybe much head scratching going on!

BTW aren't you curious to know what we in the wagon group have acquired at no cost?.......................

I'm still disappointed the Wagon Group take my advice and get 2 volunteers in a cow suit for the cattle wagon launch.
