Sorry for being ignorant but what are they doing to the loop. Are they extending it?

    Yes.

It was shortened in the late 60's when closure was on the horizon to avoid replacing both bridge decks over the stream which crosses under the track in front of the road bridge. This had the effect of taking part of the left-hand (Up) platform out of use. The new point (beyond the road bridge) is roughly where the old one was, and the old point, partly across the road, will be removed.

Good to read and report on worthwhile and progressive topics relating to the WSR. The reversion to the older layout must improve operating and also enhances the visual aspect of the station.

Lots of good stuff goes on here every day. I snapped the shot at Williton on the way home from the Network Rail PTS course arranged by the WSR plc for those of us WSR folk who hold the qualification (or at least the 'even year' half of us as it is a 2-year qualification), and the project at Williton is run by the WSR plc.

Note the absence of an 'A' anywhere above......;)

I never realised Minehead Signal box was so small. See Colin Harris Photo of 13th Jan. on the WSR.org site with the caption "The fence by Minehead Signal Box wearing a fresh coat of Cuprinol on 13 January 2016" :)

I bet the fence painters were flushed with success after completing that (big?) job...:D

Remember that was the ex Dunster box, which I think Dunster was the third home for this box.

Sorry, I was not trying to be serious.... Look again, "the fence alongside the signal box"... the little grey box...:)

Oh well, Billy Connolly has no need to worry about competition from me...:(

Just the natural rock colour for much of West Somerset. Check the colour of many of the station buildings.

+1. Two days of sunshine will help make it easier as well.

Can anyone explain why we haven't had the normal monthly update on FoWSR?

What are the advantages of the new track layout. Longer trains passing?

More importantly less time will be required to pass trains at Williton as the new layout allows trains to approach from both directions simultaneously. The previous arrangements did not allow more than one train to enter the station at a time.

Good news, but why does lengthening the loop mean you can have two trains approach?
