Jesus Christ.... People are bitching because its test on a heritage railway didn't go to plan (there was a plan just for the record).. i dread to think what would be said on here if it had of run on Saturday and sat down..... Massive respect to the team for having the balls and sensibly pulling the plug. instead of feeling the pressure and trying anyway... don't post on here very often too many bedwetters and keyboard warriors... and if anyone wants to try organise a steam event... be my guest!

Not according to 'Digger Dawn' who even forgave the fact it (60103) was going backwards.

To be fair Andi its only one cheese that seems to be having a pop. Everyone else is very complimentary about the ELR events, bearing in mind the circumstances, as well as the unavoidable common sense choice to delay the next phase of 60103s return. Don't let it wind you up, though that may have been the intention.

I think(yes I do)that if Toni travelled over to the ELR from his base in Switzerland he is entitled to his opinion.
Europeans also have an interest in our railways so lets welcome the views of one of them

The sad thing about the thread is that it shows the rather fickle nature of enthusiasts and the british malaise of build em up and knock em down

Given the well documented and protracted as well as rather complicated overhaul we can perhaps afford @Ian Riley some praise that the engine was ready and running in over the last few weekends and by all accounts has run well .

4014 was scrapped years ago, 4003 is still with us but surely only 4073 can be described as 'iconic'

    :) :)

(though I suppose 6000 is the big boy!)

Evelyn Beatrice Hall, 1906, often incorrectly attributed to Voltaire.

I think you'll find that "Evelyn Beatrice Hall" was number 7930, not 1906. ;)

Lightning does strike twice apparently! Normal service will be resumed shortly I am sure. Where's that Thompson thread...

You came close to a broadside with some of your remarks about OVS. :)

Well Digger Dawn was certainly impressed and didn't give the impression she was a participant in a "fiasco". (Sorry, hadn't seen you reference to the one and only Dawn above John but my comment still stands)

Could those of us of a nervous disposition have less blasphemy, genitalia and lavatorial references please?

Some appear unaware of 'Sods Law', of which engineering has more than its fair share. It is always there (especially in the early trials) just waiting to leap in and cock things up when you least expect it.

To try and get the subject away from the petty arguments and bitching which has sprouted on this thread I have noticed that the NRM have started uploading some great videos featuring 4472 / 60103 on Youtube:

I rather like this one for an Intercity commercial:

Anyone know where it was filmed?

I should probably quantify my perceived "extremist" views with the caveat that I do actually admire the Bulleid Pacifics as designs - and living in Kent as I do, my parents remember them fondly. Though I am fairly certain my mother cannot possibly have seen 249 Squadron on the Dartford loop line via Sidcup...

Between Clitheroe and Hellifield - it was a subject on the Picture Puzzle page a few weeks back. Look there for the details.
