What's the latest on 45596's overhaul as not much has been heard of regarding the only surviving double chimney jubilee.

I can recommend a trip to a Tyseley open day to see progress for yourself and discuss with the BLS who have a very good sales stand and will willingly help you lighten the amount of cash in your wallet

I'm a member and the it's still on target for a return in 2017 according to the last Newsletter. A Mk2 support coach has also been acquired ready for its mainline return. So in under two years we could have three working Jubilees.

Im planning to join the BLS at some point in the year as I hope to help look after her when she returns to the worth valley.

My original membership goes back to the day when it was stored at the back of Edgeley shed while funds were raised in 1967. A BHLS membership card was a s good as a permit to go round the shed. I'm to far away to be of practical help but I'm sure they will welcome you with open arms.

You might have a long wait for Kolapur, Bill and we must hope that someone sneaks into Carnforth with a tin of green paint before to long. I'm ok with the black as several Jubs were turned out this way
Dodgy chimney? There were a total of four Jubilees fitted with double chimneys over the years, 5684 was fitted with a Kylchap in 1937 and gave impressive results so who knows what would have happened had not the war intervened. 5553 and 5742 both had plain double chimneys in 1940 with the latter retaining it until 1955 and then 5596 from 1961.

2018 might well be the year of the LMS 3 cylinder 4-6-0! 3 Jubs, Royal Scot and a certain Patriot hopefull to join the mainline scene!

Moylesy with regards to looking after her on the KWVR do you mean when doing mainline trips or on the KWVR its self?

Looking after her on the mainline could be difficult as I would need to be on the support crew and I think that privilege will be given to the people who helped with her overhaul, would be nice to help out but would need to have a good amount of experience and a valid PTS, doesn't hurt to imagine what could happen though.

That may not be true, the average age of the membership is not getting any younger, so I would suggest that you join the Society, go along to Ingrow and offer your services as part of the support crew. The worst that can happen is they say no but I don't think that would happen.

Shouldn't that be an S(B)LS membership card, John? I have a feeling that I was member number 72!

You are right, in those days it was the Stockport (Bahamas)Loco Society but I didn't think anyone would remember it as such. The logo incorporated the Bahamas Coat of Arms as seen on the headboard carried on their sponsored railtours. This one was the last on August 3 1968, 45156 being serviced at Carnforth. image.jpg

Lovely, probably my favourite Black 5, I wonder where the Ayrshire Yeomanry nameplates ended up.

I quite agree. We may have eighteen black fives preserved, but such a shame that the last of the four "namers" lasted at Rose Grove right up to August 1968 and was then cut up.

Several members of this forum were involved in an attempt to buy it in 1968.
