I don't think I'd like to take an NGG16 over 35lb rail! Would be a terrible waste to see it scrapped though.

Perhaps something for the teifi valley railway, or at least some of it? I've lost track of where they're at now with all the troubles there.

I've shared with F&WHR, Teifi, Amerton , L&B so far . the lightness of the rail at 35lb is a challenge

What sort of weight would the L&B need - or for a NGG16

I'd have thought this material would be of great interest to the R & ER, RHDR and Bure Valley as well as many of the smaller 2ft gauge lines, but as always, there's the small question of funds!

On another forum, it is noted that Bala may be making a play for a quantity of the track. Hope they succeed, it would provide a lot of the wherewithal for the extension.

I went to Eastriggs after closure - an amazing place and just wish we could have travelled the system. It's documented on a Telerail video of Longtown many years ago.

The problem for lines narrower than 2 foot is that most of the rail is on steel sleepers where, it appears from their photos, the chairs are molded in at the 2 foot gauge.

How does that preclude narrower gauged railways from being able to use the material?

It would appear that you couldn't use the steel sleepers - at least not without major surgery to them. I'm quite sure you will correct me if I'm wrong, though.

So either carry out the surgery ... or weigh the sleepers in and use wood.

Eastriggs would have made a great industrial and military railway museum

You'd have to really want a lot of 35lb track, if you then had to spend a bunch of cash re-engineering the steel sleepers or arranging to sell the sleepers for scrap, and then buy wooden sleepers for the track....
Are there any UK non-2 foot lines that need a lot of 35lb track that badly?

    At the price - yes!

To put things into context second hand rail for 15" (and thereabouts) gauge railways has been selling recently for anything up to £1000/ton.

The £100 per ton is a minimum price - not an offer price.
