And it only includes breakfast, no mention of a meal on the return.

If it's one price of £450, then one has to assume that the stock will be First Opens (FO) only.
Assume there will be 8/9 carriages plus POB, is there enough FO available from DBS, or its stock provider, and if so will it be a mis-mash of liveries.
Hope not from as astethic point of view.
At this price perhaps they have resourced Pullman stock?

I wonder if they have managed to hire the Belmond Pullman stock? It's the only reason I can see they are charging silly money for steam one way.

For 450 quid I'd expect the the Queens Coronation coach.

For £450 I'd expect a first class sleeping car and a constant supply of Bavarian Serving Wenches.

I mentioned the trip to my wife and the price tag of £450 adding that this included a champagne breakfast to which she replied that for £450 she would be expecting a champagne bath. I somehow think that this trip is not for us.

I wonder what the diesel will be that takes the train back to London. Given it's a DB operation now, I'd have thought it would be a class 66 or 67, but as the tickets are £450, is there a chance the NRM can bring out 55002 for a bit of a spin after it's repaint (providing it's finished in time)? I think it would compliment the NRM's Stunts, Speed and Style exhibition rather nicely, using two of the exhibits to promote it.

Sadly it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get the time off of work to see 60103 on the 25th, unless a miracle happens... I'm not hopeful!

Call me old fashioned, but for £450 I would be hoping there is no diesel on the back.

If there was, for 450 quid I'd be expecting to take the diesel home as a souvenir.

Me too. I suppose it depends whether they give FS a "comfortable" load for the climb from KX to Finsbury Park. AFAIK, there's no arrangement for banking at KX, in the way DBS often do for the Belmond Pullmans at Victoria.

A KX-York 1st class off-peak return with Virgin is about £300. Add in the food ,bubbly and FS and it's easy to see where £450 comes from. Personally I'll wait for the videos on here....

I always expected that this would be a pricier trip than a normal railtour given the way NRM price some of
their major events and the prestigiousnes of the occasion, but even that price has surprised me.:Jawdrop: I was
expecting something around the cost of a ticket on the Top Gear Tornado trip which was roundabout £250 if
my memory serves me correctly, but £450 even beats most of the day trips on the Belmond Pullman.

No doubt there will be loads of press and other VIPs on board doing interviews and filming etc, so not my cup
of tea or glass of champagne even, much happier having a VIP Taxy Experience with Lancaster Just Jane,
better value for money in my view and cheaper.:)

Given the occasion and cost I would be surprised if they used the Royal Scot coaching set, more likely I think
that they've hired the Belmond Pullman set for this, which would make the price more justifiable, but we'll have
    to wait and see.

Hope those on board have a good day though , and thanks to Mr Riley and Co. for doing a brilliant restoration
    job.

And I'll wait for a Merchant Navy out of Waterloo with 11 cars and no diesel and a good chance of a sub 80 minute run to Salisbury.

And I'll wait, and wait and wait..............................................:(

But to Peter and all else on the run in this thread, and to all watching, photographing and filming it. Have a great day out.

Well, yes and no to the price comparison.

If you choose your trains on Feb 25th and book now, you can do the return, First Class, for around £70 and that's before any discount for rail cards. But, of course, we are not comparing 'like with like' although I'd have to 'like' FS a lot to shell out that kind of money. However, I think the NRM is right to go for a premium price for this trip. There will be other opportunities.
