Does anyone know if you can do Hellifield - Carnforth on a single tender of water, i.e. is the stop at Preston merely pathing or will they have to top up whatever happens?

I think Tornado had dispensation to do Carnforth, Carlisle avoider to Appleby without putting the bag in on a trip last year, so would probably be within that limit for a similar engine / capacity.

The usual NR limit for steam I read somewhere was 55 miles.

Dull and low cloud as FS topped Wilpshire Bank 1L -sanders on but everywhere else looked steam-tight. Was working steadily and sounded spot on (apart from the whistle). Saw it again at Pleasington 50E, running well, like the proverbial sewing machine - Ralph might treat us to his video later (nice to bump into him again). I don't know if all the gubbins were free of gremlins but from lineside FS looks to be a properly sorted machine - well done to Mr R and all his staff!
