Hearing reports that the S160 has stuck a piston head through a cylinder cover.

I've heard the same thing. Cotter pin came loose and the piston has smashed the front of the cylinder off. Ouch.

Hopefully the cylinder block is ok?

A little update on this. Loco was collected by low loader last week and taken to Cheddleton. NVR are expecting the loco back in time for the Santas! I got shown a photo of the damage, and it's not pretty. It looks like the cover has been pushed off, taking the studs and chunks of the cylinder casting with it. Not sure it was the sort of footplate experience the participants were expecting when they booked up!

Great news, well done to all involved :)

It is also quite striking to see two foreign engines in steam together! I wonder how many other SG lines in the UK can do that at the moment?

Except the WD was British built even if it did end up in Sweden.

I was really thinking of engines which have operated overseas, as opposed to having been built overseas, but it's still a fair point.

Did the USA tanks shipped over here ever see work abroad before landing on Southern metals?

I'm sure that they were tested at the builder.

Be intrigued to know how popular the Norwegian Mogul would be, if we hired it to run alongside an S160 and TKh for a weekend...

Perhaps this thread could now be retitled as S160 6046 as the loco is no longer on NVR metals ?

Despite her size, the Norwegian Mogul is not a particularly powerful loco. 4 mk1's is it's absolute limit on the KESR. Best find another foreign engine to bank it!
