Tickets booked! It's such a shame that I can't do the Friday double-header and that I'll actually miss the event.

I'm changing trains at Leipzig on my way to Dresden. It says that I have a walk from Leipzig to Leipzig Tief. Isn't that just the underground bit of the station? Is 32 minutes enough?

Yes, it seems Tiefbahnhof is the low level section of the station. 32 minutes should be more than enough time to get down there, as well as to have a quick look round the station and see the Kriegslok, three electric locos and DMU that are displayed on track 24.

Yes. I'd forgotten about that. It's meant to be the biggest station in The World. It should be good.

Has anyone had their tickets yet? The line-up looks fantastic.

Nor have mine but the train that I could still have gone on has been cancelled. It's a bit of a waste of time but I'm hoping that I can still see something on the Thursday.

Why don't you chaps just drive over - I've been doing it for decades, and the flexibility is invaluable. It's easy enough to find a Gasthaus, and if you're really desperate, just sleep in the car, rather than miss-out on some steam. My adventures are well-documented in www.Drehscheibe-online.de Historische Forum ("Meine Große Dampfjagd" - my great steam-safaris).

The adventures of German gricers in UK, in the Ausland (overseas) Forum, are also enlightening.

...and I don't want to drive over. Had an email from the organisers today saying the tickets will arrive by the end of this week.

Pays to think laterally when in Europe - Germany tends to be expensive so I am going via Prague its a no brainer
5 days in CZ 4 star hotel for £100 B&B, £60 Sleezyjet return , £60Car hire. Hotel just below CZ/DE border so if the new Dresden motorway ( 35mins) does not appeal can take the main line from Usti/Decin or the little branchine train from Altenburg or drive on the old E55 to Dippoldiswalde and take the NG steam to Freital depending on the weather and my mood.

Weather forecast seems reasonable so looking forward to some proper big engine Steam and old Electrics.

My tickets still haven't come and I'm getting the train at 5:16 in the morning. Lol. Somebody's going to be insisting on getting their money back.

I never thought of that. It's too late. I'm on my way. It was only 39 Euros. I can still have fun watching the trains.

Managed to see 03.1010 just before I had to leave this morning and I passed it on my train to Leipsig. It was next to a 750mm gauge 0-4-4-0T, which was running round it's train. My hotel was right next to a 750mm gauge railway with a 2-10-2T running on it. What were the chances of that? I had an evening trip up the line but I still can't imagine which railway it was.
