There was an ORR representative on Galatea's footplate for the run assessing the crew. He was reported as saying that he was impressed with the professionalism of all concerned and as an ex driver himself actually singled out the young fireman, whose name I did not get, for his excellent handling of the job. When the news was giving to him at the Sellafield watering stop, he was taken by surprise and said he did not know that was coming....

Drivers involved on Galatea were, as far as I know, Mick Rawlings, and Steve Chipperfield, When questioned at Carlisle the diesel driver said he did not provide any assistance, he was only there for the heating. A few recent tweaks on Galatea seem to have been effective.

Unfortunately the tail end of the journey was delayed at Man Vic, a passenger was taken ill as we approached Manchester, an ambulance was requested to meet us at Victoria. We sat in the platform for at least 30 minutes before a paramedic arrived. After another 20+ minutes he deemed that the passenger was OK to continue, hence we were now an hour late. Stewards were then busy checking timetable for passengers who had onward connections.....
So a good trip and a fraught trip....

Do you know if that's Mick Rawlings on the WCML leg and Steve Chipperfield on the Coast Ralph?

Looks like the stock didn't get back to Carnforth until around 4 this morning, I assume the ban was relaxed for trains that were already en-route at midnight?

Galatea seems to be on top form, just a pity that her finally being properly sorted seems to coincide with her withdrawal from main line service :(

Yes that was the way it was and vice versa for the WCML leg.
The ban allows for trains to be moved to appropriate places, ie back to base.

Nothing to stop it being hired to another company with an appropriate safety case.

Who knows what will happen, Mr Hosking also has a Jubilee shaped vacancy in his ever growing fleet?

Ironic really that someone with a name synonymous with circuses should end up working for one! [IMG]

Bit unkind on the driver Toni! Anyway the circus will be fine once the chief leopard's changed his spots.

Brilliant --and so nostalgic. Take one off the number, 45698 Mars, and go back fifty years.

A question to all members who have posted on this thread that the diesel wasn't assisting:

Wasn't this train in flagrant breach of the regulations agreed between WCRC and the ORR? The agreement was that they would allow them to run a maximum of 10 passenger coaches + a POB provided WCRC provide a Class 7 locomotive or above. A Class 47 weighs in at more than 125 tons and is therefore equivalent to more than 3 Mark I coaches with the heaviest Commonwealth bogies. There were already 8 passenger coaches and a POB in the consist so this made the train equivalent to a load of more than 11 + POB - and what do they provide? A Class 6 locomotive. Every train run this year by WCRC apart from the Duchess + 9 + POB has been outside this agreement.

Let's hold a Nat Pres inquiry into why the unnamed Railway Inspector didn't have some naughty coaches removed from the train!

Did the 47 have 3 coachloads of passengers on board ?

Could it be that the diesel on the rear wasn't mentioned because it was a given factor in the calculation - and accepted as such by both parties therefore no need to specify it ?

It would make sense that the load was allowed on the understanding that the diesel would provide assistance if necessary. If the diesel actually did not assist, even going up Shap, then the Jubilee was doing very well indeed.

I think that he wanted to take off the one at the end with the twelve wheels but was told that it would be dangerous as it would only chase them all the way back to Carnforth.:)
