    Hi
I hope this is the right place for this post (mods - please move if necessary).
1966 was the year I really started getting interested in railways, particularly steam on the Southern Region.

This Saturday is the 50th anniversary of the Dorset Belle Rail Tour which used 35028 Clan Line to Weymouth, two Ivatt tanks (41284 & 41301) to Swanage and Bridport plus 34057 Biggin Hill on the return from Yeovil to Waterloo.

I will be retracing the journey on Saturday to times as close as I can get on public services to those from 50 years ago. The idea is to take modern day pictures at same locations as in 1966. www.desshepherd.com/dorsetbelle.htm

I have also posted the first of a series of articles looking at railway news of 1966, drawn from magazines at the time with some observation on how some problems then persist today www.desshepherd.com/blog.htm

Would be delighted to see the photos that you take on this trip.

    Cheers,

Was this the tour when the Ivatt tanks had to be rescued off the Bridport Branch by BRCW Type 3 diesel?

No. You're thinking of the tour in January 1967. An unfortunate tour as there was a body discovered. I don't have the exact details of the misfortunes of that tour.
