Many of you may be aware of Project 22, where a number of us got together and started a project to build from scratch a Class 22. It was a big step and the steps are getting bigger and bigger. There is a lot going on and some real progress being made. We have an electronic journal that we post out every few months, its free all you have to do is register on our website www.class22newbuild.co.uk or see us on face book

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/218449265028960/

We will be out in the summer at a number of Galas trying to get into as many wallets as possible.

any questions please feel free to ask?

    cheers Rich

The NBL Class 22 was a notoriously unreliable machine. Do you have any plans to iron out the faults?

Why is your Facebook site a closed group? I would've thought you would want people to read it and become involved. If I come across a closed group I just think the group is hiding something, especially if they are also appealing for funds.

Your website doesn't seem to show any progress since November 2015

Firstly, The 22s where unreliable to a point, unfortunately being non standard some of the repairs were a bit Heath Robinson. One of the reasons for down time was waiting for components and fitters from Swindon as nothing was standard. The class were liked by drivers and where a very versatile loco. Certain depots were not good at maintaining them and keeping them clean, which resulted in fires. This class had no chance of surviving, the design was rushed as was the construction. The first 6 pilots were not build prior to the production order being placed. We have been able to access most of the NBL drawings. These we draw down over a period of time. We have also gained access to a further 350 Swindon modifications. Our class 22 will have to be re designed to meet today's standards and to take on board the replacement equipment we will need to use.

With regard to our website progress up date, this is a long process it not just about building a locomotive we have to do lots of other work as well to keep the project active. We issued "Lister" our journal in January with is an up date to everyone. This is a massive monumental task. The planning stage is going to take at least 3 years from now to complete. We went from announcing every little thing to now announcing whats relevant and interesting.

Facebook is open to anyone all you have to do is ask to join, as started it keeps the porn and spammers out. We welcome all comments and opinions.
    thanks for the interest

Quite a lot of groups I'm in have recently changed their privacy from open to closed. Some control is necessary if the page is used for official announcements.

Is it planned to be a mainline loco? What where their top operational speeds like? It looks like a interesting project.

We have a view little catchy comments we use on of which is "Making the dream a reality" cheesy but true. Going mainline may be one dream to many? Its hard to say at this point. Our objective for 2016 is to appoint an engineering and design consultant to manage the specifications and build a CAB file of the locomotive. In principle, if we are building a new locomotive with an original NBL MAN engine it could be a possibility. Max speed on a 22 was around 65 mph.

It's like you went into town to get a book and know they have it in the library, but refuse to join.

I can't understand people being reluctant to join fb there is a whole world of railway interest in there

Yes, I have joined several. A few on various ex GW steam loco classes, disused railways. Dare I say it, Blue Pullman, Projects Falcon& Lion, Hymeks as mentioned earlier. Also the early Mid Hants Railway.
Plus several about the history of my home town, Reading.
The latter often brings up some very interesting pictures of various aspects of old Reading as I used to remember it.

I suspect that it's the fact that FB can (and do) use your personal data that puts some folk off. I don't want to derail this thread, but that's a comment that comes up a lot. Remember, FB is 'free' - but how do you think it pays for itself?

Anyway, as you were - back to the 22s...

They are notorious for mis-use of data and security lapses/problems.
