Can water be taken at Penrith? There to Abington should be just about possible.

This is a question, not an assertion, but would it not be possible to utilise Carlisle Upperby's Down Goods/ Down Goods Loop, accessed from Upperby Bridge Junction, for this purpose?? As far as I can see from track plans, there exists a single lead exit across to the Up Main and Down Main from these relief lines, so on paper this could be ideal - it would give an intermediate distance of just under 85 miles from the Barton loop and around 59 miles onwards to Abington Down Loop. Upperby has certainly in the past been the site for water stops for trains avoiding Carlisle and turning left/ west to access the Cumbrian Coast line or right/ east to access the S&C/ Newcastle routes.

The only doubt in my mind about the feasibility of this suggestion is the comment about 6233 needing to be detached, and the (possibly) related point that the goods lines here are electrified, precluding any work atop the tender.

Just spoken to RTC about absence of tickets and timings. They are awaiting final timings and expect to receive these today, and will send out tickets this afternoon

    We'll see!

Peter, with the sun trying to shine on Manchester this morning

Overall, good news so far. I'm still thinking of bailing out at Edinburgh, although the sad fact of the matter is that the Advance fares have crept up by about £10 overnight.

Has anything appeared on RTT yet, just selfishly thinking this could be a very rare opportunity to see steam at Lancaster for the foreseeable future!

Nothing yet 19.30, but the tickets sent out do say 6233 from Victoria, with Preston at 8.04 so you can work out the Lancaster time... service trains take 15/20 minutes.

Craigentinny is the usual place for charters to lay up on trips to Edinburgh.
And this looks like the ECS to Crewe on the way back.

No path back to Carnforth late Sat as I think there is still a block north of Preston.
