Where on earth did you get that story from, certainly not from on board... Yes we have been delayed, service included some fresh coal and then no slot to get 6233 back to the train..

Half an hour saved by not being looped at Quintinshill, it seems?

That's the word! Was trying not to mention WCRC as they technically don't own anything but I couldn't think who does own the stock... Got to keep the rivet counters happy LOL

Looks to have been a very decent run from Carlisle to Beattock Summit, based on the indicated departure/arrival times on RTT - about 58 minutes for the 49.8 mile stretch. For comparison, last June Tornado ran this section with the Border Reivers railtour in a few seconds over the one hour mark, and with a rather lighter eight coach formation.

Don't know how fair this comparison is, because I don't know the detailed circumstances of Tornado's run (tsr's/ checks etc) But at first blush, today's effort seems to indicate that earlier problems have been resolved, and that the running over this leg will prove to have been a memorable feature of the day's outing.

Did you join the forum just to post an unsubstantiated rumour? Seems you've wasted your time if you have.

THE MIDDAY SCOT - THE TOUR THAT WOULD NOT DIE...

First threat was the closure at Lamington and the prospect of repairs taking longer. Actually opened earlier than hoped.

Then TOC gets banned from the network. Alternative TOC secured.

Loco and stock at Steamtown. Collaborative working with WCRC to manage loco and stock with DBC.

Poor coal but not stopping an unassisted climb over Shap. Spirited run into Carlisle.

Nearly an hour late off Carlisle. Get better coal at Carlisle ahead of Beattock Summit.

Make up time by missing Quintinhill loop. Pragmatic signalman. Shortened loop at Beattock left on time.

    Edinburgh.. on time!

Well done RTC, DBC, WCRC and NR. Thank you!

See my picture at Post 200; I understand that all the kit is there but I'm led to believe that only the collector shoes are not fitted - unless they have been well recessed - hence they are viable for 3rd rail systems if needed.

The hills of Beattock echoed to bark of 6233 as she pounded up the bank, the speed did not dropping below 30 until easing to go into this loop at the summit. The tanker driver was standing with the hose and had it coupled and filling less than 30 seconds of us stopping. From there we ran at a brisk pace all the way to Edinburgh, as noted only a couple of minutes down.

Two shots in the gloom this morning...the first, ambling through Lancaster on the 'down fast' [sic], after being checked by a succession of single yellows and later arriving in Carlisle. One thing that surprised me was the small number of people out to see her through both locations.
