Mines the same, it's supposed to be a heritage line so I have an apple green B12, a Midland 3F in maroon, a Jinty in lined black, a duchess in BR green and an 8F in BR black, with a blue Hymek. My coaches are mostly Triang/Hornby mark1s and 2s in maroon or blue grey with a couple in regional railways/NSE, my excuse is that they gave just been bought out of traffic and not yet repainted!

It's amazing how many people know what is in Joanna Rowling's imagination better than she does.

I suggest those enable to cope with something entirely made up not being consistent with established reality don't read it...

Back to Kolhapur (such a fantastic name) - perfectly understandable with 2 mainline Jubilees and another on the way that Tyseley concentrate on other things. I have always felt their heart is more GWR anyway. Personally I would love to see the Bloomer come next...

I remember her from the GCR in the early 90s when I was a fireman there , particularly remember washing her out. Kholapur that is! Although not a Midland man by birth I apreciate them for a good loco that they were. BTW I also like Victors avatar!

I can confirm the 5593 was repainted in LMS Maroon a few years ago. It is in the shed at Tyseley and will be on display at the Open Weekends.

After reading Michael Whitehouse's article in the latest issue of Steam Railway issue 549 it would appear that 5593 no longer fits into the Vintage Trains set up in future, as its not compatible with their GWR standardised locos and therefore will not be restored to steam or main line running and I assume left as a static exhibit. Bearing in mind the recent sale of the SVR's Blackfive 45110 then why not sell the loco to raise funds for the restoration of 5080 Defiant? I'm sure there are at least a couple of train operating companies north of Birmingham who would be more than interested in taking on the Jubilee? No doubt this will cause the usual outcry but it's one way of funding the the upkeep of the GW stud of locos.

Given the recent performances of the Jubilee class coupled with their superior route availability over GW types the decision does raise questions.

That's a shame. My first cab ride (at Tyseley during the GW Returns railtour stopover). The imbalance in favour of the gwr isn't going away any time soon. :(

How does a focus on the GWR sit with their (ever-so-long-term) Bloomer project?

Would a Jubilee boiler fit on a large GWR 2-8-0? Asking for a friend...

Michael Whitehouse seems a little blinkered in his assessment of 5593 Kolhapur. While admittedly a Midland locomotive it is also Stanier's second (third ?) tender locomotive design in which GWR principles were applied to the LMS fleet and, in my humble opinion, worthy of restoration especially since class members were a common sight in the area working SW-NE services via Derby and WCML express services to Euston and Crewe. Perhaps Michael is displaying the GWR's blinkered view that Swindon products were superior thus no other company could provide locomotives worthy of comparison; I believe Stanier's contribution to the LMS proves otherwise but then am I being equally blinkered ?

Or maybe he’s saying we can’t do everything and will concentrate on the big GW engines that we know more about and will have interchangeable parts if anything goes wrong one that’s operational. We already have three 5Xs on the mainline.

And seven years ago you posted that it would be nice to see all four in traffic at the same time. :)
