Things are slightly flexible at the moment. 6990, hired for the gala ran a hot box on the thursday before the gala and was not available. Ther were a couple of other failures, cant remember wich.Best to wait untill 60th onwards allocations come out

I gather the intention is to run 6990 over the Easter Weekend (the roster already says it is doing Good Friday).

Oh, I know; I was just mentioning the AFP in passing (no pun intended). My own view on it, though: its price has gone up steeply every year since introduction, and for me personally it's no longer good value, even more so in the light of standard day fares being frozen this season (a welcome surprise). Emphasis on "for me personally" because I'm sure there are others who travel more and for whom the AFP is still well worth getting.

http://www.svr.co.uk/MeetTheLoco.aspx?id=102 shows 4566, visiting 6990 'Witherslack Hall' and 34053 'Sir Keith Park'.

Witherslack Hall is subject to repairs being completed. An announcement is expected Wednesday, all being well.

I hear 4566 had a few issues yesterday (Sunday) so keep an eye on the website page linked above, for changes.

Saturday/Sunday's will be posted usually on Friday but the ones listed above should give you a clue!

    Cheers

    Patrick

Id love to see 43106 out over Easter... but some nice Western Region engines would be welcome too. Actually going down with the interest of seeing Western stuff on the Western branch. Would be nice. Heres hoping!

Working on one of the trains behind 4566 on Sunday, it seems much exaggeration has occur with it. It might need some attention (it's been in traffic 10 years) but not as much as some reports would have you believe!

Ah but with Friday being Good Friday, we could well see it appear on Thursday.

7802 has a boiler issue which may require removal of the boiler from the frames.
1501 broke a spring on Saturday evening.
No problem that I could see with 4566, although it ran short of water on Sunday morning on 09:50 KR-BH and had to fill up at Highley. This train was due to be double headed by 4566+6412 but pannier 6412 was taken off this turn to cover for 1501.
As mentioned by others 6990 had a hot box on the trailing bogie axle.

I had 4566 on he afternoon relief on Saturday. The morning driver told me he had had problems with the vacuum pump only maintaining 21", not 25", the sight feed lubricator filling one glass up and the one piston having a serious bypass problem. Fortunately, I had no such problems. I have had the 45 on many occasions and have noted that the vacuum pump sometimes plays up in the morning, but seems to settle by the afternoon. Anyway, it worked fine for me, pulling 25" with no problem. I know that Dave, the morning driver, had given the lubricator a lot of TLC, and, whatever he did worked, because it performed impeccably while I was on it.

As for the front end, the engine definitely had one heavy chuff out of four, but the only time I heard a serious blow-by was when I was moving very slowly and barely cracking the regulator. I suspect that the one set of piston rings were sticking a bit, unless you put a decent amount of steam in to get behind and expand them.

The engine ran beautifully. On the pretty bits between Highley and Arley and the fun stretches from Northwood to Bewdley and Bewdley to the summit, I had the regulator wide open and the lever one notch off mid-gear and the machine was purring with its four coach load. Proper expansive working. It is getting near the end of its ticket, but it still does the biz.

    Regards,

    John

6990 confirmed as work over the Easter weekend (first train from Bridgnorth) with an all steam service on 4 days (Table B tomorrow and table C Sat-Mon).

Im guessing that its four sets then, looking at it. So would you expect there to be other engines out this weekend?

At least five locos in steam on Sunday and Monday - four public service diagrams each day, plus the Severn Valley Limited diner on Sunday and a footplate experience running on Monday.
